@Payney84 Thanks. Glad you found it useful! The red one has gaps that you can fit the black sled to, which enables you to drag it over transverse (vertical) grout joints without the tool getting caught in each grout line, keeping the silicone joint nice and smooth.

Hi. Great video. I’ve tried many tools for removing old silicone. I agree that a Stanley knife is no good. I looked online for a knife with a flexible blade to get parallel with the surface in the corner. In the end I found the best thing to use is a fish filleting knife. They bend so you can get right in without scratching. You can also re sharpen them with a steel.

Great to great from you. I love it when a pro is interested in innovating and learning new stuff - I personally think it puts them (you) in the top bracket of the profession 👍 Also, massively grateful you got in touch, as I've been convinced for a while that cutting the nozzle straight is more effective, but it's great to hear feedback from someone else on this point. Thanks again 👍👏

This guys advice is amazing. I did a near perfect job of applying silicone as he advised. It seriously look neat and was easy to do. Made me feel confident. Sometimes the best teachers are the non-experts because the experts just carry on doing what they’ve always done but others re-evaluate ways of doing things with evolving technology and tools. Well done mate. The best silicone application video ever. And buy from his links in the description.

Charlie, your videos are absolutely brilliant! You explain everything clearly and concisely and then go on to demonstrate using excellent videography. You have addressed everything that I have had issues with in the past in your earlier video, and now you've shown how to deal with corners and uprights in a very comprehensive and straight forward manner, using the best tools for the job. I have now ordered the shaping tool you demonstrated and look forward to completing my shower installation having followed your tuition. Keep making videos....please! Your explanations are exactly what I need and following your example makes DIY a joy and not a chore. Thank you so much.....your efforts are genuinely appreciated!

Used this system last night, Cramer 7 bought with your recommendation and delighted with the results. The hint about the right angle piece to remove errors was priceless. Great info. Better vid even than the previous. So glad I saw this because I bought the Cramer kit 7 straight away from Amazon. I’ve finally found the solution to not using my finger! I tried masking tape before, and it looked really neat, but I got that tiny lip that was left as per the previous video. Thank you so much for blasting the idea of using water and washing up liquid, or white spirits. Although they work, your video made it so obvious that water and white spirit could get behind the silicone without you knowing. Fantastic, keep it going as these videos are really informative.

Brilliant video. It's amazing how many people I know over the years who have bought similar profiling tools yet use them the wrong way round, using the profiled edge as it faces the silicone. All this does is finely smear out the silicone above and below your joint which then shows up on your tiles when viewed from an angle, it's a total bugger to remove too and invariably you end up mucking up your silicone seal in the process. Glad you talked about not using water too

Just purchased a kit 5 after watching your last video and made a great job re sealing the bath and kitchen worktops. Great video Charlie. That first bit where you deliberately screwed it up (we've all been there), and then cleaned off and made a lovely joint afterwards was process demonstration at a very high level. Wonderful.

Superb video, followed your tips and replaced the silicone in my shower with ease, confidence and a perfect finish. Have done this job a few times in the past and each time have had problems using other techniques. All of your tips make doing this job simple especially the corner tip. Look forward to more videos.

Hi Charlie I lived in UK 15 years ago and worked on building sites as a plaster, tiler , painter and so how life went. When we finished bathrooms the site manager never ever let us do finishes with silikons jobs. They Always called specialist which he charged him 500 pounds per day for the best results of the silikon jobs. I was always surprised how good finish he did as good as you. So. I am sending best regards in UK and I have to say I miss UK so much . Jan from Czech. :) ....and I am sending above very interesting video how to do the corners in one go. ...

Ah, Jan, thanks so much for your message. Blimey that's a lot of money isn't it, to earn in a day!! They probably used those wooden forming tools. I wonder how they did the corners as they wouldn't have time to wait for the vertical to set. Thanks again and good to great from you. The UK missed you too, my friend 👊

This video arrived in my feed at exactly the right time. I’m about to silicone my bathroom tomorrow and I’ve been puzzling over the intersecting corners for a week now. I had come to the same conclusion about doing the verticals and letting them go off then the horizontals. I’ve complicated the matter by doing two different colours (grey tiles and white sanitary ware) so great on the tiles and white around the top of the bath etc. I also have the kit you used as I think I saw your previous video and bought it based on that. Anyway, thank you for your insight it’s much appreciated. Keep up the good work.

I think this job is easily overlooked and if done badly, as it so often is, can really ruin the look of a newly fitted bathroom. I used to work alongside a tradesman who done siliconing for a living, and he was superb at it. All he used was different size/profile dowelling which he made himself, and the finish he left was A+. And, he made a very good living out of it. Small van, simple toolbag, and he earn't very very good money. Thanks for the tips Charlie and excellent tutorial.

Great little update video. A challenge i can't find many people covering is uPVC bathroom cladding with the little corner cladding strips, sealing over that is a faff! Also removal of silicon from uPVC is a faff since if you scratch it, you open yourself to other issues.

Thank you so much for the siliconing videos. I bought the cramer kit and have practiced/used it for a bathroom refurb and am so proud of the results. Watching your demos gave me the necessary advice and confidence to do a really good, enjoyable job. And by the way, prep for the work was hugely helped by having properly sharp chisels which I honed using the diamond slab and honing guide from Axminster that you recommended. The only thing I need to improve this system now is an angle setting jig or guide. Thanks again - brilliant!

Hi Charlie, excellent videos - really clear and detailed. I made a real mess of some clear silicone sealant recently and struggled to repair the finish and thought you might be interested in my solution - which you probably already know but just in case . . . I was sealing a ceramic sink to a reclaimed oak work surface finished with Treatex Colourtone and Treatex Hardwax Oil Ultra - so I couldn't just cut the silicone out and start again without scratching through the wood finish. I left the silicone to cure for a couple of days while I thought about it and then couldn't face seeing the horrible look of the mess any longer and attacked it. I picked up a set of snap-off blades without a holder to start cutting and it occurred to me that if I used one blade to cut and another to sit underneath the silicone to protect the wood I might just tidy up the sealant without ruining the wood finish - and it worked. I slid the snap-off flat under the sealant to shear it off horizontally and then held the blade there while I cut down from above to create a clean surface on the silicone. I found that if I laid the horizontal blade on another one that gave me a better angle for the horizontal cut but the whole job was done without scratching my polished Treatex surface. The blades are Tajima Razar blades [www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B010SRSMIQ/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 ] which are the sharpest stanley type blades I have found. Hope this is useful for someone. Cheers, Vin

Cheers Vin. Excellent work, mate - particularly not cutting into the wood which is very hard to do in practice. I'd have done something similar but wouldn't have thought to use the snap off blades. I have a Tajima tape measure on the recommendation of someone in this comment feed and love it! 👊🏻👍🏻
