This lesson is so well done! Conor's voice is impeccably angelic and velvety, almost like a warm hug in audio form. There's a lot of richness there: like you said, there's a bit of Buckley, Yorke and Bono there, but he's also very much his own vocalist, thanks to his classical training and childhood diet of blues and soul. Nothing But Thieves songs are so hard to sing not because they're melodic gymnastics but technically because of Conor's flawless transitions between the registers and the subtle nuances that makes his vocals very him, such as an airy breath here, a brief belt there and those barely there melismatic runs peppered here and there. But most importantly the way Conor moves the audience emotionally with his stage presence-not only live but also as a voice in the studio-that emotional energy is simply unmatchable. Thank you for this lesson, Chris, and for doing so well in showing us mortals the ropes to Conor's divine vocals!

New singer for me. He is really singing the way the great Motown and R&B Greats did. I hear very much operatic leanings. He really holding back the breath through appoggio.

As a beginner, two things strike me. 1. I need to listen and feel what I'm hearing with a lot more discernment and perception for the subtleties and nuances. 2. I'm a very long way from this level of elegant, eloquent expression ... sigh. Beautiful work Chris.

I'd love to see a video about Caleb Followill from Kings of Leon. Even though he doesn't do super high notes he has a very interesting sound to him. His voice has such a cool squeaky grit to it like if he's had some cords sickness before and it's damaged now. I wonder if it's possible to imitate and learn something from him. In the song Charmer he does this cool scream I've never heard anywhere else and I wonder if it's done in a healthy way and how it works.

It’s it just me or have you already developed a bad habit of letting go of the note after you’ve sung it in your head voice? You’re letting the pitch fall instead of cutting it off cleanly. Thanks for being a great teacher. I’m speaking mainly on “if I get high”

If someone told me 5 years ago that a road to high vocal artistry includes making controlled noises ranging from breathy lovers through calling babies in head voice to yawning murder victim on one breath I'd laugh in their face. Not laughing now tho. I could watch it for hours but I get too mind blown. BRB, looking for my jaw on the floor.

Amazing video as usual, sorry I only see it now ! Maybe you could dive quite a bit into Puggy’s discography ? They’re a Belgian band (though none of the members are actually Belgian, the singer’s English, the drummer is Swedish and the bassist is French) and are therefore criminally underrated, and I feel like you’d definitely have some interesting points to pick up on in Matthew Irons’ voice. Can’t wait to see more analysis of yours anyways ! :)
