I gave up trying to mimic Joe and once again, your detailed breakdown has opened the door once again. Im a baritone and always find myself wanting to overcome my boundaries with rock singing. Great job

Sebastian Bach is on record for saying Joe Elliot and Rob Halford were two of his biggest influences. Have you ever considered doing a video about Sebastian? Maybe I Remember You, Wasted Time, or Quicksand Jesus?

That pre-chorus of Photograph reminds me of how much Brian Johnson influence there is in Joe Elliott's voice in those days. Being produced by Mutt Lange, I wouldn't be surprised if he had Joe really lean into that.

Sterling, there are consonants and vowels that usually need to be sang different, so it sounds like the word. words with S's and the word "you" usually are among and some others. for instance. Without you. sounds like withouttt chew. You don't pronounce the T on without and you don't pronounce the U and the word you, you sing yoo. try it. you'll hear it on tape. withou yo. Motley crews song sounds like withoutt chew. I still chuckle, someone in their camp should have known that. they done enough records. Enjoyed your program. remembered as few things I had forgotten about. Makes for a great tune up. Thanks.

There have been a lot of tapes from these albums that have surfaced. A lot of people thought it was Joe Elliot singing. It was actually producer John "Mutt" Lange. Joe and the other members were imitating him and he was also emulating them. Also notice on "Photograph" he focuses on vowels and drops consonants, especially at the of phrases. Also Mutt sang some of the harmonies on both of these albums.

Thanks, Sterling! I've tried singing this stuff for a long time but have never been able to figure it out. I probably still can't, but at least now there's a chance. 😂

I tried this vocal technique last night at my Def Leppard tribute practice and I'll be damned if I didn't sound more like Joe! I am extra hoarse this morning so not sure if I was pushing a little too much or raising my larynx. This lesson was great! Thanks!

To be honest. Try this, 1.Stay relaxed. 2.Hit a high note (falsetto, not belting/ pushing chest) 3. Try keeping the larynx relaxed as possible and just lean in slowly into the note (you'll feel vocal cords tightening up) 4.Don't push air out, have a good breath support. 5. Sing softly as possible when doing it. 6. Build it up. Don't overdo, overuse at the beginning. It has worked for me and I've used it in couple of vocal lines in my last song. Hope it helps.
