Back in the 90’s when this was shot, operas focused very much on the ability to sing. Acting and stage production focused operas came much later, probably why it seems different to the modern version of the performance.

@@lloydkim3990 If you were smarter you would understand what I have been saying You are implying that the vocal coach doesn't know what he is talking about yes it seems you dont know what YOU are talking about you can't practice ANYTHING in life without practice, Opera singers have to constantly perfect their craft everyday and each artist has their own unique way of doing it All I am saying is try to be positive keep practicing and you will get there with due time, how is a few words hard to understand surely you would have known what I said.

Her voice sounds great, but I don't understand a word of what she's singing (and I am German). That's a problem for me in general with opera...

True! But as mentioned here the reputation has been well earned over the years of being unintelligible. That said it’s also the case with many if not all genres where there are artists where you just don’t understand a lot of the text. Hearing an opera singer that is great at being well understood is one of my favorite things though. And there are a lot that are excellent at doing this.

I'm more into orchestral works or like Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau sings Schubert. And guess what? The greatest thing would be to hear Dimash sings more opera 😁 Good night from Doris
