Hi Beth! I am not familiar of how a person's singing voice works, but as in this video of Tony Braxton, I sometímes think, that some singers have more power on all their register than others. Their highest notes are notoriously hard to hit, but if you have almost the same power on all your register, are you a good sínger? My brother is an musician and a composorer, but not a singer, but back in the days when we listened Morten Harket from 'A-Ha, we both were astonished as it was literally impossible to sing all the range no matter where you wanted to start on the lowest notes.. I am not sure of this as I am no expert on any shape or form, but just playing those notes with a piano was mind boggling. Usually the voice will get a bit thinner at the highest parts and you don't have that kinda power behind it anymore.. pressing my key on the highest notes with a piano was unreal. Sometimes it maybe possibble for real singers, to drop octave or half from the original and still you will srtuggle with the highest notes. Singing voice has to be similar to any given natural ability on every possibele situation. Like in sports or whatever... YOU JUST HAVE IT, OR YOU DON'T. Tell me if I am wrong?

One of my high school friend was , I think a baritone, but his range was absolutely bonkers... reason to why he sang an classical piece in our graduation seremony... even the 'bad boys' were silent. No microphone on a big space nor any technics.. Just his voice. I knew that he had taken lessions, but had no idea, how good he really was...

Hi, when will you return to Mexican music, I liked your analysis and there are many songs as good or better than the ones you have heard, many masterpieces that seem to have been played by the angels.

This has to be one of the greatest torch ballads of all time. For that type of song, this tune feels so utterly classic in that vein.

There are a lot of great singers out there, but every once in a while an artist connects with a piece of music that is just perfect for them. Streisand got "Somewhere", Josh Groban got "You Raise Me Up", Linda Ronstadt got "Blue Bayou". Toni Braxton got this song, and she just nailed it to the wall. She feels this song, and gives us all the desperate passion the writer intended.

Many people believe this song is about unrequited love (as I did) but if you watch the video it’s about your love dying and leaving you. I guess you can have it be what you want which is one of the beauties of music.

It's a music video, of course they're going to make it about someone dying for the sake of the video's storyline. Geez.

This song, at least when talking about the low notes, is just like written for Diana Ankudinova. I know, she sang it already in a duet setting.. even in that take it was noticeable how similar are the low notes of Diana and Tony. On the other hand, in belting abilities Diana is probably behind a young Toni.

Please consider one of these suggestions to view or react. The duet of Diana Ankudinova and Yulia Parshuta on the song by Toni Braxton - Un-Break My Heart will bring you real pleasure. World-class vocalists in a cool show. According to the conditions of the show "Duets", the participants of the duet do not know with whom they are singing in pairs, they are separated by a mirror partition, and the sound in the ear monitors is greatly distorted. The main essence of the show is the emotions of the artists, when near the end of the performance the partition is lowered and the artists see each other. The best sound is the video from Diana's channel. The reaction to this video must have video image protection. Also excellent Diana duets without copyright restrictions. Diana Ankudinova and Brandon Stone - The Day You (Diana's official channel) Diana Ankudinova and Ildar Abdrazakov (top 3 most powerful operatic voices in the world (bass)) - song “Thank You” (KWstas Vagias channel)

Original recording is much better IMHO - A lot of the things she does here, which you emphasize as amazing are amazing, but are also coping techniques to disguise, that she can't do the song as well as she did 25 ? years ago ;-) At least, that's what I hear.
@emptylikebox6 ай бұрын
Give her a break, she's 55 years old. And let's not compare with the recording because we all know there's a lot of technicalities behind the record that made it perfect. Toni still sounds great. If you don't like her then take a hike.

Way too much stopping of the video. It personally drives me nuts when any 'first listen' video creators or vocal coaches constantly stop the video after only 5 seconds, and it also doesn't let the viewer feel the actual emotion of the performance. I do love your enthusiasm, but the chaotic back and forth, seems a bit chaotic and jarring to me. I'd much rather hear the whole performance and then have a conversation about why it's so great afterwards. I guess it makes me feel that after so many interruptions it's not about the vocal performance anymore, it becomes about the video presenter themselves. I think you have very valid points to make, but they are overshadowing the very performance you are trying to feature.
