+Parichat Chuenchom Thank you so much! I practice these things in my daily life, and have really explored how everything is so connected! This video is sooo amazing! I found this video this week and here is what happened- I had a senior solo competition earlier this week and I have been singing for a long time:) the only problem is that BECAUSE I have been singing for so long that I have put expectations on myself to live up to what I have previously done and be "perfect". On top of this, the individuals I am competing against in my high school have been to nationals with me and have won multiple singing competitions. Finally, our conductor and teacher is not the nicest man in the world, and I was really scared that I wouldn't be able to live up to the expectations that I have put on myself. This video helped me so much that I just let go and actually WON!!! I'm soooo glad that I found you and thank you for everything😋

how do I sing infront of my family I always sing in my room cos that's the only place I feel comfortable I feel like I'm ready but I just don't know how
@MadeleineHarveyVoice8 жыл бұрын
+Demi The human HI Friend!! Singing in front of your family and friends is an excellent way to begin to feel comfortable with performing. you'll want to start with a song that you can do well. Something that is in the conversational part of your voice. That way, you're not concerned with how you sound so much, and you can anchor the feeling of confidence in your performance. Also, if there is a song that concentrates on a particular strength of yours, you'll want to focus in on that. For example, I LOVE to be sassy and mischievous when I sing! It just pulls me right out of my insecurities, and gets me focused in on the story and my point of view. (My favorite song to sing is called "Sin Wagon" by the Dixie Chicks) I hope this has been helpful! I'm looking forward to hearing you sing soon! Big hugs!

I just paused at 2:41 to say that is EXACTLY what happened. I was rather confident before the event, but after hearing what one of the people around me had to say about my voice...I was crushed. I didn't want to sing in front of anyone ever again, and I only wish I could regain the confidence I had before! I hope I learn how to do so by watching the rest of this video. It would make singing on the worship team a lot easier. xD
@MadeleineHarveyVoice8 жыл бұрын
+Canadian Batman Nerd I'm so glad you liked the video! It can be devastating to hear someone say negative things about our voices. It's literally the hardest pain to recover from..just remember that your singing is about you. As tough of a lesson it is, we can't control what other people think...although we will try. What is more important is how truthfully we express our own thoughts and feelings. There is power in accepting the fact that not everyone will like us, therefore, we no longer need to even try. Take all that creative energy and focus it on your love of singing! And you will be amazed at what your voice can do! I hope this helps! Keep shinning your light my friend!

My daughter was so nervous about singing for her class in a school competition (she has never had a singing lesson but likes to sing). I then found this on utube and she watched it and a few other of Madeleine Harvey´s wonderful utube recordings. I could see her attitude change before my eyes, the tension went out of the room. The next day before her performance she told me she was not nervous and sang with confidence only becoming shaky at the end (when she caught the sight of a friend of hers who was crying) when I saw her sing through and louder ridding herself of the shake. Thank you so much Madeleine.I am actually a clinical psychologist myself and think your methods are wonderful and your delivery very engaging. I actually did pause it and ponderrrrred. I came up with, its knowing that the other humans (audience) will understand what you mean to be doing, or at least will understand that you are truly expressing something and it's important enough to you that you don't care how strange or eccentric the activity will be in which you express yourself. And also you're beyond embarrassment. And you what you're doing. Going to hit play now…interested.

Hi Madeleine Harvey Thank you so much for replying me! You are truly awesome! Just a question regarding “ without explanation “ when singing. Since I always record myself n listen to it afterwards so I can make improvement. It will naturally make me feel good or bad as I evaluate my performance in the recording. How should I keep myself always positive or with no explanation as I sing next time?
@MadeleineHarveyVoice7 жыл бұрын
This is a really great question. (And well done at listening to your recordings for feedback.) The important thing to do is to separate yourself from the results. You are an artist my friend. So think of it like that. A painter has to paint many different layers of a painting before it is finished. They paint the background, the foreground and the subject. When you look at your performances in that way, you can see the areas clearly where you want to make an adjustment but without punishing yourself. It is simply an area of your painting that you'd like to (add more color, definition, contrast, etc.) It took me a LONG time to be able to listen to myself on a recording and do this. But I promise, you will get there. And you'll actually have more fun in your performances! You're painting sonic landscapes!
@fecdiamondbar7 жыл бұрын
Wow Madeleine, I can't believe you are actually taking time to answer my question. Your explanation and the metaphor you used is awesome. First of all, i apologize that i had a typo in the previous message. My phone automatically changed my word from "expectation" to "explanation". I am glad you still understand what I was asking...lol! I did not check my typo before sending it, sorry. Anyway, no one could ever have explained to me as good as you did. You are truly a great vocal teacher, you can sing well and also know how to teach! You have a lot of gift! I feel more encouraged to continue to sing better! Thanks again and God bless! =)

@MadeleineHarveyVoice8 жыл бұрын
Baby steps. Haridas. Start with a song that you feel is in your comfort zone. This is a song that's going to feel conversational and that you can connect to. This will help put your mind at ease about the technical aspects that way you can anchor a positive feeling to performing. This is where confidence really takes off. When YOU know that you did good. When you can accept where you are and celebrate your achievements, it's easier for people to respond in a loving way. And even if they don't...that's ok too. Cuz YOU still know that YOU did great! I really hope this helps! Happy Singing!
