Great video! I'm just beginning to learn skipping and suck! In fact I had gotten so burned out about two years ago I couldn't even make myself try fishing for bass. On 4/10/24 I forced myself to try again throwing a Gary Yamamoto Senko 5" worm at the bank around overhangs and lay downs. I was so discouraged I almost quit in the first five minutes. But, suddenly I felt a bump on a cast. Like a pup hearing a strange noise my heart felt a little excited. I kept trying for a few minutes and hooked a decent bass. I didn't get it in the boat but it did heighten my hopes. Over the next hour I did catch two more 12-14" fish. But, my casting sucked! I couldn't get my baits where I thought was best and definitely not under the overhangs or in tight spots. After watching your video, I'm going to try to improve my skipping skills in hopes of at least gaining more confidence. Thanks for sharing your experience and thoughts!

Great info Edwin and Andy!! Edwin, I love ALL of your content...very informative and entertaining! This happens to be one of the techniques that I have forced myself to learn this year and two additional helpful tips are 1) before you start skipping, cast your lure out really far and as you reel it in, put your rod tip in the water so the line and your thumb and fingers get wet...2) raise your rod tip as your bait starts to skip. For whatever reason, both of these tips, along with pretty much everything Andy said, have helped me learn to skip a jig. Now, any tips on skipping a hollow body frog??

Is the average size different also? Thank You. I almost feel you should be sending me a bill for this edition. Great show on skipping.

@bigdawgD20033 жыл бұрын
12-17lbs test and the reel settings should be set so you can still get your normal flipping distance. If you put too much brakes then you have to throw the lure harder which causes more backlashes. Plus if you're going down the bank and don't need to skip your lure and want to flip or pitch it you won't need to change the reel settings and be inefficient. Hope that helps

Hey Ed, I wished you guys would've told us how you have your reels setup when skipping. Like the brakes and how loose on the tension. And how not to backlash.
@jimk42673 жыл бұрын
my 2 cents. Been skipping 40+ years. Start with the shortest rod you have. 30 lb braid (makes getting the backlashes out easier) If you have line conditioner give it a spritz. Loosen the spool tension so when the lure hits the water it keeps spinning and backlashes. Turn up the magnets. Make soft throws and gradually lessen the magnets until you get the distance you need. It is ALL in the thumb. Once you are proficient you should have very little spool tension with the magnets almost to the lowest setting. As he said, the rod action is very important. The new parabolic rods do not work as well. Too much tip movement screws up the accuracy. Hope this helps
