How to SLAY a makeover on a boring interior door - easily!!

Stuck for ideas on how to make over those wood effect white primed hollow interior doors!!!! Don't be! I show you how to get a great look for minimal cost (a small amount of stain and paint goes a LONG way!) and you can turn your boring white doors into something to be proud of again!!

Products used
Rustoleum 3x fast drying wood stain in the colour Dark Walnut
2" chip brush
ANY off white interior latex paint
2 pieces of cardboard with a straight edge
Old rags
Clear coat of your choice

Working on 2 door panels using this technique right now. It has been surprisingly easy. I have finished one side on the first door and am really happy with the results. Going to try some color in a few spots on the back side to pull in some red or maybe turquoise accents. These are going to be mounted as barn doors going into a guest bedroom. Really appreciate the way you demonstrated this process. Question, how would you treat the edges of the doors that don't have the woodgrain?

Hello :) Is it a real wood door or mdf? If it is a wood door can I achieve this with MDF doors?

It's a hollow core mdf type door so yes you certainly can achieve it on that. You just need the door to have the texture in it :)

Awesome video, the content is more important than the "tunnel" sound. I love this. I might have to try this on an end table I started to make into a cat house for my girls. I took off the doors and painted a base color over it and it has been sitting waiting for the perfect technique, this is it!

I have a front door that is a very honey-golden sealed stain. Hate it. I want it to look exactly like the barn-wood, weathered end table you made. Can you please do a tutorial on how to create that look on an already varnished overly golden door? How to counter-act the honey-yellow color with cool tones to get that gray finish. Pretty pleaaaase

I did this to the doors and trim in the stairwell that runs between my condominium and my next-door neighbor's. The white paint showed every smudge and always looked a little ratty, but the wood grain finish hides most dirt and can be constantly touched-up without re-painting everything at once, since the wood grain obscures any minor difference in shades. It's a lot easier to keep that area looking respectable now. Thanks for posting!

I never knew you could do this over a painted piece of timber...magically brought the grain back, ...i guess it relies on the door not being sanded too fine, so that there is still some differences in grain height? Or does the stain soak through and raise the grain? Amazing! .

It is not timber..likely just a hollow door.

​@@waffle_chair9269on a builder grade door, the grain is texture. The cardboard square wipes the paint from the high parts and leaves paint in the low parts of the grain.
