You can do it this way, but if you're driving and it gets dark and you can't stop, you won't be able to see where you're going. To do the job properly, buy a 3 position on-off-on(momentary) toggle switch and some wire, inline fuse, and some spade connectors. WARNING - keep your hands away from the headlight unit mechanism while messing with the fuses and the wiring. If they move and your hands are in there, you're gonna get hurt. Remove the RETRA fuse from the fusebox whilst your lights are off. Run two wires from the now empty fuse terminals to the switch in the car. Use the male spade connectors into the fusebox, and fit your inline fuse to the live side. One wire from the fusebox goes to the middle connector on the toggle switch. I would use the one with the inline fuse fitted for the middle terminal. The other wire goes to one of the other terminals, it doesn't matter which, and a loop from there to the remaining terminal so they are joined together. Job done. I fitted my switch with the momentary position at the top, but it doesn't really matter, it's your choice. You want normal lights flick the switch to ON position. Mine was down. Your lights will now work as normal. You want lazy eye, make sure your lights are down, and move the swich to the middle, OFF, position, then turn your lights on. To raise, just flick the switch the other way to the ON(momentary) position and let go when they're as high as you want them. The switch will spring back to the OFF position stopping the headlight motors, You might need to practice to get them where you want. When it starts getting dark, just flick the switch to the on position and the lights will open fully. This is a bit more work, but much safer ;-)

Just a little factoid for anyone who might not already know Retra in the fuse box description was short for Retractable for headlights.

on my 94 I used a foglamp switch from a GT in the junkyard, and wired it to the positive under the dash, but like you said, that required splicing into the stock wiring. It only took 10 minutes to do but if you don't want to cut wires your method is the easiest
@yungjavfromaz8 жыл бұрын
another cool way to do this is if you have a 93, they come with a switch in the middle of the dash under the hvac controls, its a push in type like the rear wiper switch and rear window defroster switch. What you can do is just take the wiring from that switch and hook it up to a dimmer like switch and then you can turn the knob until you get to the right height u want it at. Then u can use that switch in the dash that was originally for the lights to flip up for something else.

Defiantly doing this with my 94 wild orchid gt man good vid, always wanted to do it to my 2.0 but didn't wanna screw it up also like someone said watch your hands ppl, haha first time I changed a head light it randomly closed on my hand with no phone and middle of night so no help and didn't know I had a manual over ride till 5 minutes later lmfao,

That's cool man, you should wire a toggle switch from that fuse to the cabin that allows you to bypass the fuse and just work it from the inside.
@FPGT2413 жыл бұрын
@ChickenParmHero No, but this is a new method that has been popping up on a few websites verses the hundreds of sites that have a 'how to' on the method where you have to hook up aftermarket wiring and buttons.

@FPGT24 well i was mainly talking about aftermarket headlights for that are not nissan but resemble the look of a 300zx.. but yeah your right about the nissan ones there very expensive i have worked on many of those.

Yes, pulling the retra fuse on a 89-92 will accomplish the same thing. You can also push the headlight knob in and turn it when the headlights are up to keep them up with the lights off.

Nice...... But dude, I don't know shit about wiring either and I did the sleepy eye mod in my 94 GT with the button in the car to adjust and it took all of about 25 minutes! Not hard at all man. Just jump the orange wire to the red and white wire behind the fog light switch. It's cooler because you don't ever have to pop the hood. I subscribed and have seen most of your vids. You know these cars inside and out pretty much... I'm POSITIVE that it wouldn't be too much of a challenge for you....

Wait a min...... that mod was for day time running fog lights.... The sleepy eye mod was even easier than that one!! You don't even have to splice into any of the cars wires!! Just run two lengths of wire from the Retra fuse to toggle switch!!!
@FPGT2411 жыл бұрын
I was also joking bout the first part. I guess you didn't realize that. 93-97 Probes have Mazda engines, transmissions, chassis, suspension, and were even built by Mazda. Ford only designed the interior and body, thats how the Ford badge got slapped on there lol.

@fighttillyoudie0 thats the exact thing this video is the polar opposite of. I will not go through that kind of bullshit to cut stock wiring, put in aftermarket wiring, and route it inside the cabin. Thats hours of work and i dont know shit bout electrical so id probably fuck something up. I rarely drive at night so leaving my headlights like this all the time isnt an issue.

I know almost nothing about 1st gens. I doubt it would work. 1st gens have a button to keep the headlights up, but the lights themselves off. The 93 model of 2nd gens also have that and I'm not sure if you can do that either. As far as i know this will only work for 94-97 Probes.
@FPGT2413 жыл бұрын
@fighttillyoudie0 send me a message on facebook explaining this cuz the only two methods i found were this, and the one where you have to cut wires and run aftermarket wiring.

Your wrong. The 89-92 models have the headlight off switch and they can stay up. Turn your headlights on then push in and turn it one more time. Your headlights will stay up but be off. I have a 1991 ford probe.

I'm well aware dude. I suppose you didn't listen closely? Because i said "93's are the only SECOND GENERATION PROBE that have the switch where you can leave the headlights up". @FPGT2410 жыл бұрын
Yes, blue interiors on Probes are very rare. The 94 wild orchid edition is ultra rare, there is believed to be under 1,000 of them still existing. You have two very rare Probes. I have owned 18 of these cars and seen many others over the 7 years i've been into them, and I have NEVER seen a blue interior in person and have only seen 1 wild orchid edition in person.

@jtreign9097 Yeah, its extremely difficult, and very costly. its very hard to find 300ZX headlights and when you do, ur talking about half a grand for a set of them according to my one friend who has owned 4 300ZXs all his were Twin Turbos, he just rebuilt one. i would love to get my hands on a 300zx and i had the chance before (it was junk, total junk, barely ran and had salvage title) but they are so expensive around here.
@RonnieBurris12 жыл бұрын
Couldn't you just also use the manual knobs on the headlight motors to crank them up? It seems like it's less harsh on the electrical system than causing the fuse to arc like that
