I wish i had done this with my 2 boys. They are so shy of people, even my mother who regularily feeds them and spends some time with them when im away at the farm. They will always run under the bed when the doorbell rings, sometimes they wont if they're sleeping but 99% of the time they will and they refuse to let someone other than me pet them more than once or twice before running away again. I dont know how i can curb this behaviour at this late stage anymore

Awww thank you Dani! That is painting I made a few years ago. My sister was throwing out a plywood box that had been used to ship a large mirror, so I snagged it and threw a bunch of paint on it. Most of the paint was old house paint I'd collected, with some cheap acrylic I tubes I bought at the craft store. Those are all of my favorite colors. Appreciate the comment!

Wow, that's so cool! I love the colors. On my screen I pick up coral, teal, wine and taupe. So pretty and happy.

Your videos are amazing, educational and even entertaining. You not only have a gift for working with cats but you can make very professional videos complete with clear and concise narration, excellent photography and titles. I'm impressed!

Wow, thank you SO much. That is one of the nicest comments I have ever received. I really want these videos to help people care for and understand cats, while at the same time being fun to watch (and not too long; I try to keep them under 5 mins). Thanks for watching! xoxox Caroline

My wife and I do find your videos informative as well as entertaining. We've had cats all of our loves. Most of all I'm happy there are people who care about them as much as you do and create U Tube channels dedicated to their care and nurturing. :-)

Do you ever use scent as part of socialization? With how important it is to cats and dogs I've always though that it would be a great idea to expose them to your scent (a dirty t-shirt for example) where they relax and let them explore it thoroughly while not feeling threatened, thus making it familiar and less scary. Same idea for introducing them to other animals in the house. After all, this is the same idea that is used when you "site-swap" as Jackson Galaxy puts it when introducing cats to a household with an existing cat. I don't see why it wouldn't be effective here too.
@KittenSchool5 жыл бұрын
Hi there! This is a fascinating idea, and I have seen Jackson Galaxy do this in his shows. I think I will start putting a worn t-shirt into the beds of kitties that I am socializing to see if this helps. At the moment I have only very socialized cats in foster, but I'm sure I will get a scardey-cat soon. I may even do a video on this! Thanks for the comment and the great suggestion.

We may have been lucky, but all the cats we had were very confident and made themselves at home straight away. My last cat was the best at bonding. I had to take her home as a kitten at least 2 weeks before I thought was right. The mother had got bored with the babies and was neglecting them. She complained bitterly on the way home, but I spoke quietly to her and put my fingers in her cage to let her smell me. When we got home I put the cage down and opened the door. To my surprise she jumped out straight away and came to my feet. I showed her the rest of the house and she trotted by my feet. Then I sat in my armchair. She jumped up straight away and slept on my lap for 3 hours. We were bonded so quickly and at bed time she jumped up and slept by my head. That was the way our relationship stayed.

ty so much making these videos and what you do. when i was a kid (we already had tigger at the time) we drove down a busy street. there was a trash bag , so my dad stopped to pick it up and there was a kitten inside. apparently someone thought to throw the kitten out into a busy intersection. well we took it home and raised it. we called her cinnamon and she was heavily mal- nourished. it was bottled milk for while and then graduated to bread soaked in milk. finally ended up eating dry food(moist).we had a tough time with her as she was very scared,shy and would attack. we got her calmed down just as you did (same techniques) , she ended up a lovable family cat and had kittens which we raised of her own. its sad to see when kittens /cats get badly treated that they lost all faith in humans. i go by treat others (including animals) like how u want to be treated. after cinnamon passed away we kept taking in cats that were not treated well. even this runt of the litter named cali, he was a blind kitten with an extra toe. he also had seizures and would run into walls. he was thee most wonderful kitten and smokey our female Abyssinian cat ended up taking him in as she was his mama. cali didn't live long time because of the seizures but he died a happy cat. he was about 10 when he passed away.

Yikes, now THAT is going to be one bloody video! But I'm up to the challenge. Next time I get a foster who fits those parameters and needs a bath I'll make a tutorial! Thanks for the suggestion!

Hello! I use crates, which for a decent size are anywhere from $50 - $200 new on Amazon. You could also probably find some used for cheaper. Here's one similar to what I use: bit.ly/2KmargU Hope this helps!

what should I do when a kitten wants to go out from my hand asap continuously??
@KittenSchool5 жыл бұрын
Hi there, I would stop holding the kitten for now and just concentrate on gently petting it on the floor, or while it is in your lap. Once the kitten learns to trust you, you can then start picking it up very slowly. Remember some cats just don't like to be held. And also for a small kitten being lifted off the ground can be scary! Let you kitten learn that it will get treats and gentle petting while it is sitting near you, then once it is used to that you can slowly start to hold it. Good luck!

how to you keep a cat from trying to run out the front door every time it opens? She is fixed.
@KittenSchool7 жыл бұрын
I would keep a spray bottle of water next to the door. That way you are prepared when you go in and out. If she makes a run for it, give her a good squirt. That helped curb Sing Sing of his inclination to try to run out the door. He doesn't do it any longer!

How about adult cats?
@KittenSchool2 жыл бұрын
Adults are much harder, but it isn't impossible to socialize one. It just takes longer. Check out this video I made about a very shy cat I helped to socialize, it might give you some tips. This cat was not completely feral but had lived his life on the streets with people occasionally throwing him food. There's two videos: kzbin.info/www/bejne/pHq7ZKeod6pmeM0 and kzbin.info/www/bejne/o4W8qZ18hsd2nNE
