I've been looking up videos on modal improvisation online but no where have I found anything else as close to the clarity and precision of this instructional video. Thumbs up!!! Thank you so, so much!!

Amazing, posted 6 years ago, just over 100 views. Don’t have my guitar with me at the moment but looking forward to trying this out. Playing the Dorian mode over the 2,5 progression. Scales only work when you learn how, where and why to apply them.

since you know the tonality of chords on diatonic chart you can say how you can allot a particular scale to the the resolving chords , and voila u will be done

I have a question: the third and the seventh note are the biggest change in the scale. In C Dorian Scale, I have C D D#(3rd) F G A A#(7th). So, I can explore those notes to make a solo? I mean, I noticed ppl using the 6th note too (A, in C dorian scale). What notes I could explore more?

Fellipe Muniz I don't understand what u meant by explore notes

Think of the sharps as flats D sharp should be E flat and A sharp should be viewed as B flat, C Dorian is the second mode of B flat which is the home key. The third and the seventh are very important target notes when soloing but use all of them so you become familiar with the tonality

We can also solo in G Major scale ?
@sashabrusin35563 жыл бұрын
Certainly. You may notice that some notes in the G Major scale sound better than others over the Am7-D7 progression. The point of using modes is to more closely follow the chord(s) in the progression. By using A dorian (which is still G major), your soloing will emphasize the A minor tonal center of that progression.

so ,you take the key , and take a look at the diatonic progression in the the same key

Santana played Oye Como Va in A-dorian. Like A-minor, but with F#.

if you were in the key of G your music would be in G no? dont get that

Gregory Dorrell : the track is indeed in the key of A minor, and A Dorian is a great scale to use for soloing. Sasha explains that A Dorian is simply the second mode of the G major scale (meaning that it is the same exact scale, just staring on the second note, A) - does that help?

if this is correct then this hole model thing is confusing i need a teacher

He's playing all the same notes in the G Major Scale, A Dorian is considered minor so it may be used in an a minor chord progression depending on the chords played.
