If you want to solve it the "normal" way, and depending on the size of your screen/tv, it helps to go a little farther away from it (I play on a 48'' tv). Just kind of "gaze" at the pad and don't try to look directly at the arrows.

Think this may have been patched. You can pause it and see the direction but there is a significant delay from when you cancel and when you can register a direction

You can see in the video I have that significant delay, so if it worked better before it still works after it was patched. It is still hard. I was getting severely frustrated with this puzzle as well. I just did it last night as well, see timestamp 15 minutes in to my may 4th livestream "mini-boss mayhem" its in my Stellar Blade lets play playlist. There is a sort of rythem you need to find with the delay. Its circle>*pause*>directional input>circle. It still saves you time if you are slow to see the direction light up and move finger to the correct button like me. Just to add, you can also spam the direction button after hitting circle so you dont worry about rythem. But if you are not quick to hit circle again, then you risk double pressing a directional. Even if you mess up a couple times you should be able to solve it with this method and the delay.
