I would disagree that word problems are real world problems, as some of the word problems are so wierd no one less then matemation would use them. You can ask how old is Jane? The other person would replay a) I dont know, b) 35, c) Mark is 40, Jane is 10 years younger than mark. You would never hear something like "before 15 years Mark was 2times older than Jane today. In 10 years Jane will be 40".
