Today I’m sowing 18 varieties of Clematis seed. They are all from Alla in Ukraine and I’m so excited for this project and to see all the beautiful flowers in the future.

I have just received my seeds from Alla as well. I will probably wait until fall to plant. It is summer here now and very hot! Thanks for doing this. Going to see if you have any update videos.

Thanks Annette. I did not know that the seeds needed stratification. I have a couple of clematis and have thought about sowing the seeds but I think I would have done it totally wrong. I love the Omoshiro clematis, so pretty.

Yes, I'm so excited about some of these varieties, particularly Omoshiro. I really hope they germinate 😬 Nothing showing yet....

How exciting. A long wait to see how they turn out though. I try to only grow group 3 clematis as so easy to care for. Such fun! I have just sown seeds in a sealed milk container, placed in a sheltered place outside. First time i've tried this and am excited to see if it works. Happy gardening 😃x

Hi Be, yes that's why I chose mostly group 3s but I was tempted by those few group 2s. I'm really hoping they sprout soon!

Hi Tina, yes I would've done that too but any little spec of bare soil gets used by the cats (!!!) so I never sow seeds outside anymore 😆

Gosh I think it would be much less hassle and much quicker, to propagate by cuttings. It I'm sure it will be fascinating to discover what they look like eventually.

Yes, this is why I'm sowing the seeds. I just really wanted to help Alla. Also it's much cheaper this way since I'd need to own the plant before I could take cuttings from it, so this way I can have loads of different varieties.

Thankyou for trying this for us,it will be really interesting to see the results,I have had a go at cultivating my clematis plants by the cuttings method,so far I have got 1 growing and as I did'n't label it I don't know which one it is 😂😂 I have just planted some seeds from a clematis called 'Little Bells' which is a very small yellow clematis .This will be very interesting for you to see what grows from your seeds,just one question,is it correct that the seeds may not produce an exact copy of the parent plant because of cross pollination ? so you may end up with a plant a little different from the parent plant.Anyway way ,best of luck with your clematis seeds .Alan

Hi Alan, you will have a nice surprise from your cutting when it begins to flower! I've had no germination yet from my clematis seeds - maybe I should have tried the other method, rather than let nature have a go! I don't know how Alla has managed to separate her seeds - I'm relying on her expertise. Hope I manage to grow at least some of them!
