You guys have such amazing miniatures but we never get to see any closeups, I’d love to see more army overviews next season

I agree with everything you’re saying. When you paint 6mm, you have to remember you’re painting and presenting them as units, not individuals.
@LittleWarsTV5 жыл бұрын
Agreed! Given the level of detail on the Baccus minis it can be easy to fall prey to the trap of painting every possible detail when you're trying to paint mass units with thousands of troops.

Having finished painting an full set of microarmour 1/285 scale for both AotB and SoS (+Monster Tanks expansion) from the Conflict of Heroes series, I would strongly urge you all to prime with light grey/beige airbrush or spraycan, then hit all minis with an appropriate GW contrast colour, diluted with contrast medium. Contrast isn't as amazing for bigger minis, but it is a GODSEND for microarmour, when appropriately diluted - it instantly brings out all the detail and with a few detail touch-ups you will have an amazing micro ready to go. I would never do micros any other way now.

Honestly, I can't even wrap my head around painting 6mm, between cataracts and a welding career my eyes are Post toasties if it wasn't for blown-up pictures and videos I would miss half the details on my 28mm.

Really good tutorial. More is less is certainly the way to go. with 6mm about 1/300 scale (Maybe 1/260 for the taller figures) some detail simply won't be visible at half an arms length (150 yards scale distance), for example a 3" wide sword belt would scale down to 1/100th inch wide. Better to not paint that and let the tunic and trouser colours (or skin and loincloth for the Zulus) show. Some features are more important than others. Distinctive features: Headgear, any plumes on that headgear, weapon points and mane, tail nose blaze and ankles on horses. Finally, make things a bit brighter than they are in reality, otherwise the little guys will blend into your terrain, with a risk that they'll sit out the battle unnoticed.

I would recommend that anybody buying and painting 6mm visit Baccus's website for painting tips. Also when painting, paint the front bit of all the figures one colour before turning the holding base (in this case the popsicle stick) and then painting the back of the same bit. Speeds things up. Spraying an undercoat means you can undercoat 100s of figures at once if you have a big enough piece of backing to do so. Any small bits that haven't been undercoated will get painted over and will not show up and neither will the slight colour difference.

Wanting to get started with miniatures (to be honest I have some unfinished 1:72 napoleonics somewhere), and right now I am thinking about getting some 2mm (I know not much details there - I adore all the pictures of bigger minis, but right now I don't have the place and patience for those) from Irregular. Want to use those with the Horse & Musket series games (Hollandspiele). That way I can have both. Play H&M with minis and build up some napoleonic miniature armies. Have you guys experience with Irregular's? I am also thinking about modular bases, so I can switch them around from line to column formation. Is there something like that out there?

This is the first time we attempted to film a painting tutorial, and it was definitely an experiment to see if we want to do more of them. We have some very talented painters in the club at each scale.

Gods, I wish, oh how I wish I could paint 6mm like this, but I just can't. On a Late-War German Panzer Grenadier, I am psychologically compiled to paint the canvas gaiters, the bread-bag, the canteen, the leather equipment etc, etc. Clearly I need help. But those minis of yours really do look good enmass.

Excellent video! For bases, how do you choose between circles, squares, and hexagons?
@LittleWarsTV2 жыл бұрын
Depends on the rules/game you want to play. Most of the games available use square or rectangular bases. That is pretty standard.

I like your videos generally, but it would really help if you said what paints you were using. I pulled this specific video up looking for a brand/shade for skin tone for my own zulus, and need to look elsewhere. I mean I like your channel but just a suggestion.

Why don’t sets have pre-painted miniatures? Sorry, i’m new to miniature wargaming so this might look ridiculous, anyways, in my mind it doesn’t make sense, i have to spend money on paint and miniatures.
@LittleWarsTV4 жыл бұрын
There are some pre-painted miniatures out there, of varying degrees of paint quality. The planes from Wings of Glory (which we played in our Red Baron episode) are really good. But I think the #1 reason we don't see more of this is cost. It's not cheap for companies to manufacture above-average painted miniatures for a price that's competitive with bare metal. But hopefully over time technology will allow a shift in that direction.
