This is the best video ever! After a Bios update a few months ago my laptop went slow. It gradually got worse. So I got in touch with HP support as my laptop was still covered. They used team viewer to remotely control my computer and it was OK once more. But after a week it was slowing down again. I got back in touch and they said I would have to save everything on a hard drive etc and they would clean out my computer and basically put it back to how it was when new. No thanks I did that once and couldn't get all the stuff back on. Then I came across your video. I thought what have I got to lose as my computer was getting worse everyday. It took ages just to start. Boy It's fine again and it starts in 15 seconds including having to enter a password. It's running great once more and all the programmes are brill. Needless to say I've bookmarked this link!

I did these things and still had a super slow computer. It is important to mention that all of the temporary files you deleted from your computer are taking up space in your Recycle Bin and need to be deleted permanently to truly free up the space they're occupying. Realizing this made all the difference in my PC's performance.

*What not to do: * *DO NOT* delete the contents in the prefetch folder Balanced mode is a good compromise. It will ramp up the clock speeds of your processor when it needs to i.e: playing a game. And reduce the clocks to save power. Not a good idea to use the high performance preset for a mobile device such as a laptop *DO NOT* forcefully defragment any partition pertaining to a flash based medium (ssd, sd card). Doing so not only reduces the life cycle of the product but the benefit is minuscule at best and hardly noticeable *DO NOT* Use registry optimisers. The few remnant registry entries do nothing to hamper the performance of your pic and coincidently deleting important entries can have negative consequences. Always backup the registry before performing edits that you may be unsure of *DO NOT* Disable windows services (either from the task manager or within service.msc control applet) that you may be unsure of *DO NOT* Disable the page files. Windows and many other operating systems (alternatively known as the swap drive /file) use the file created to specifically offset memory tasks too big to fit in ram onto the medium where windows is installed. Say you work on a project and you have 12GB of ram in your system. This files is too great to fit into the aforementioned ram so what the operating system does is create a "virtual ram" file on your hard disk or ssd (as this has a greater storage limit than your 12GB of ram) so the program has enough ram to work with. Disabling this will not only hang the program; crashing it but at worst will crash your system due to ram violations. Leave it at the default size windows recommends Whilst this video is not one of them, I have seen videos with outdated information claiming to speed up a system but on the contrary will make it function for the worst. Use your best judgement. Throughout research the options you are about to change. Please don't believe everything you see on the internet proclaiming to help with optimisations - this goes double for programs. Windows is self optimising. It'll take care of itself. Only use trusted programs to do the job and avoid dubious ones with little reviews

Just an addendum. The optimise drive option (windows defragmenter) will detect a flash medium (ssd) and offer to "optimise" the drive instead - garbage collection. You can verify this if the defrag option says optimise. Only run a defrag on mechanical drives.

The prefetch folder is a subfolder of the Windows system folder. The prefetch folder is self-maintaining, and there's no need to delete it or empty its contents. If you empty the folder, Windows and your programs will take longer to open the next time you turn on your computer

One last tip, you can also increase ur virtual RAM, to do that go to control panel, system and click on advanced syste settings , click on performance settings, click advanced, then modify then click custom size then multiply the number u want per 1024 (1gb = 1024 mb)

Yooo yoo yoooo legitt the optimizing took foreverrrr. Mine took 6-7 hours but in the end after following all the steps it was worth it! Imma update ya'll after a month update: So after a month, it works surprising well now. The startup time doesn't take forever to load anymore, I can play League of Legends smoothly, and it improved startup time of apps as well as the battery life. You guys should try it out

@@GeeksTutorial : No worries, I've mentioned it to my mates at work and my boss who has 2 daughters with very slow laptops asked me to send him link and he's going to do the same as theirs are so slow. I used to leave my computer in sleep mode as it took about 20 mins to calm down from start up. I would have to turn it on and go and do something else while it was going through all the processes. Not any more, I just turn it completely off and now it's up and running with in about 1-2 mins. My dad also wants me to do his lap top as his is really slow. 😀
