Good news. I just got back from the field, and I was able to figure out how to fix the problem of the student not having "down elevator" on his control DXe transmitter. It was pretty simple, but nowhere did I find this posted on the internet. So, the fix is to use the Spektrum app and using the programming cable, go into the setup of the DXe transmitter that you want to be the slave. Go to the control permissions and change the Aux 1 setting from slave to master, and save the settings to your slave transmitter. Then test to make sure. Your student should now have "down" elevator control.

Using a plane called the 'Apprentice' while talking about 'Master' transmitters wasn't the best idea for noobs like myself. Can you bind a wired DX4e with a wireless DX6e or do both controllers/transmitters need to be wireless?

Great demo. I do have a question in wireless trainer, if my master is turn on with low rate dr/expo, will the trainer will also receive the master low rate setting? What about the trimming too? Thx

MrQuestionboy Depends on how you have the Master transmitter trainer function setup. There is the option of Programmable Master where both master and slave radio need to have the same programming so the functions would be controlable from the Slave tx. Also Pilot Link Master where you can select which channels to give the Slave transmitter. If you have a Gen2 transmitter go to the Trainer function and it should be clearer. Also always check the function of the trainer before you fly.

Matt, I have been trying to use the trainer setup using two Spektrum DXe transmitters, but have had a problem getting the student to be able to use the "down elevator". I can get it to work on the bench initially, but as soon as the throttle is advanced, the "down elevator" stops working for the student, although the "up elevator" always works. The Master radio has no problem, and always has full control. Yes, I did use the programming cable with my PC laptop using the Spektrum radio app, to make sure the elevator is selected for control on the trainer control tab. Is it possible that the Eflite Apprentice S15e is going into "panic mode", since I am holding the "Bind/Panic/Trainer" button on the master radio? Someone told me that the "Down elevator" is inhibited in "Panic Mode"? Can you please help we with this problem?

going to teach my daughter to fly, so i decided to try this method of buddy boxing. ive set up my txs and everything is working great, but just wondering...you obviously lose the panic function on the master whilst both txs are turned on but is it still operational on the trainer tx and im guessing it will return on the master tx when the trainer tx is switched off? thanks...very intuitive vid!

Help! I bind a DX6 to a DXe and it was working fine for a while . Now after using the trainer function on multiple aircrafts the student ROLL & YAW are reversed! How do I fix it?

What happens when you advance the throttle past 25%? Does the SAFE mode start? And does the Down Elevator stop working on the Slave radio, because the Master radio's Panic mode (trainer) button is pushed? If so, what is the fix?

Every time we bind a buddy box. the buddy box starts in SAFE mode. and canr turn off. any hep appreciated. we are using an nx10 master and dx6e trainer.

Check what channel and switch you are using to control SAFE. If it's not set up to anything, it defaults to beginner mode. I believe spektrum and maybe horizon hobby have tutorials for programming safe.

On a standard 4 channel its automatic like you say. When you have gear and flaps you need to add/assign the switch to aux2.(non standard) the It was setup on the main buddy box. For some reason we had to go into the trainer buddy box and assign that switch to aux2 also. All good thanks.@@davidwood259

It seems easy but there is a lot of parameters not addressed in this video. I am controling a UMX Timber with a DX6, and I would like my friend to use its DX6 to be my student: I have customized a lot of switches, etc. Do my friend need to get a copy of my file on its DX6 in order to control it correctly? Will the trim I use be duplicated? Please give us a bit of specific, in your answer to my comment please.

I assume that you have the plane trimmed out to your liking , new model on his TX for airplane blank . once on the bench make sure the servos don't move when you give him control if they do trim his TX until the control surfaces don't move when you let go of the bind button . this will make for a smooth transition from one TX to another throttle trim on both TX set to neutral . having throttle cut on your TX is a good thing ,it will let him move the control surfaces but no throttle so he can get a feel for things on the ground on the topic of throttle make sure his is at least at half before he takes over so the plane will stay leveled when he is flying stay active on your sticks and mimic his flying that way you can just feed in a little by pressing the bind button usually you help them with rudder and it helps them make nice carved turns enjoy

The first one: In the Pilot-Link-Master menu, we see all the channels. By defaults it seems to turn on only 4 channels... I am using a UMX Timber (and soon my new acquisition the Turbo timber 1,5m, got to join a club for this). It is 4 channel, plus one for flaps and one for the Safe select choice. So could you please confirm that we must turn on as many channels that the plane needs to work properly? (next question to come after I retried the situation on the transmitters...)

You need to change location of pushrod connector on servo arm and/or elevator control horn . The closer the pushrod connector to the axis, the greater the surface movement. Hope this helps.

I’ve done this. Dx6e is master. Dx61 is slave. When I enable slave the control surfaces move less than master movements. Actually elevator has no down movement at all. HELP PLEASE

You skipped step one! Make sure the trainer switch is on switch (i) and not inhibited.

That's not pretty much all there is to it. My Wireless trainer box aileron servos are reversed and the reverse switch doesn't work.

is it possible to use the trainer button to give the control to the student without holding it (i use oversteering), so i dont have to switch 2-times bevor the student can fly again?? holding the trainer button is not really comfortable for me :D any tricks ? :)

this isn't really a "perfect" solution but you can replace the momentary button with a switch... :)

@ jullian.....so the " I " button on both my master radio ( DX6) and the intended slave radio ( DXe) both currently use "I" as the panic recover for my Blade 230 S heli...so when I set this up , I would simply pick another 2 position switch as the slave/master selector switch...right?...thanks

SPEKTRUM! Absolute horrible idea to eliminate the wired trainer option from your radios. As an instructor, I use a wired setup with my DX9/DX6 setup and have NEVER had a problem. This cannot be said for other, ay my field that use / attempt to use the wireless trainer function. The move to wireless is especially bad on the beginner oriented RTF planes. The last thing a new flier needs is problems trying to get help via a buddy box. Do the right thing; add the wired option back to you radios. At this point, if I am to need a new radio, I will not be looking to Spektrum if you stick to the wireless only option.

very disappointing video from HH....some important steps and features were skipped and not mentioned .....there are major differences between choosing the two types " trainer " modes .... " programable master " and "pilot link master " ....FYI: if you want the simplest trainer feature, choose the "pilot link master " option, it is the simplest to use, as the slave Tx just needs to be on a model name , with no other programming set up done....
