The first of many videos in our "How to with mike" series. We give the shop truck a much needed upgrade! We show you step by step how to replace the "spider injection" in your second gen vortec engine. Upgrading it from the old central port to a true multi port system.

@@AdamDavidSoloman better gas mileage, starting and power. If your original spider is still fine, it won't make a difference. If yours starts perfectly, it's probably doesn't need it. They leak and dump gas into the intake instead of the ports when bad.

@@AdamDavidSoloman my leaking spider was running so bad for so long that I can't say if the upgrade is a noticeable difference over a proper running stock spider.

I've never seen that "Topside Creeper" before. I'm used to disemboweling myself on the hood latch. Gonna check one of those out. Thanks for the nice clear video.

Top creeper makes you feel like you have heart problems with the chest pain after about 20 minutes. I'm older so maybe that's a factor but seen young men come off of that thing smiling like a monkey that was confused with a grimace. I have a lift so when I need a top creeper I just take the front wheels off and lower it to the rotors. I can reach everything from there.

Thank you so much for this video. I just replaced my spider injector a couple days ago and my Tahoe runs much better. The rough start and rough idle is no longer there, but more importantly the engine light is gone. Thank you again.

Sweet video! I got one in right now, its been awhile but scheduled the whole day for it. Im pulling the lower manifold to reseat it while im in there, thats something that should be done along with these spider jobs unless it was done prior. I think ive done 4 of them and it wasnt until I had a comeback coolant leak that it taught me the lesson to do the lower gaskets while in there lol.

Nice going on this real good video. Would've liked to have seen more of the tuff areas, like; the maneuvering of the injectors into their homes, and top manifold cover over the spider's electric box and gasket.(when there are vid cuts, I always wonder how long and/or bad it really was, - or will be for me). I'm probably gonna tackle this on my 1999 GMC Savana 3500 5.7L, Cut-Away Cargo, 16' Penske Mover. Slight comment: I would cover the throttle body with something, maybe masking tape, an Lrg. sandwich bag w/ rubber-band, or just a rag. You did add caution to it I believe as well w/ the injectors. I'm glad they got rid of this crappy, time consuming and somewhat difficult design. My engine sat about ten years and although I emptied the tank of gas, I didn't release the pressure in the lines. So when I needed to get it back on the road I was surprised that there was still fuel and pressure. The fuel was pretty bad. I disconnected the spinon fuel filter and release the fuel again w/ the shrader. I added injector cleaner and WD-40 along with some gas to fill the new filter, hoping to clean the lines and especially the injectors, but to no avail, After long attempts at cranking, (with good fuel pressure and spark) it didn't fire up. Then I gave it fuel through the throttle body and started up, ran smooth for a few seconds and died, with no problematic noises or warnings. Continued to force feed it hoping the injectors would play nice, but no luck. It's been sitting for a week with injector clean as stated, under fuel pressure, waiting for another attempt. #1. Do you think the injectors are clogged with the old gunk? #2. What chance do they have of coming around? #3. Do you think that is the problem? #4. Or something else, and What? The cramped space really sux and I'm thinking of trying to force more pressure to the fuel line, or releasing and draining the fuel line and spraying in a cleaner by hand, and repeating until satisfied, then reconnecting and try firing it up normally. Please offer your comments or suggestions.

This only works if a new install, but if you want to guarantee no vac leaks, use liquid tape around the vac seems and hose's.

I am wondering as to the cost for the new spider, and did it improve gas milage? If anyone is doing this modification and their intake manifold gaskets are old, I recommend that you replace those with high quality gaskets while you are in these as they all go out after 150,000 miles.

Thank you so much for the video. I’m getting ready to tackle my 1999 Chevy Tahoe Limited 5.7. It’s been a while for me since I turned wrenches, but your video helped boost my confidence. Now than I’m retired after 45 years of faithful service to our nation, and with some “spare” time on my hands, I’m ready! Sentimentally attached to the vehicle since it is my wife and I first wedding anniversary present to each other! We bought it brand new with 3 miles on the speedometer! Recently after failing Smog, I got quoted $1,800 to replace the “spider” and it seems a bit too steep for parts and labor even for Kalifornia! lol

The original spyder system in my Astro looked as good as it gets after 28 years and 231,000 miles old. I don't see how the new design is an improvement. All solenoids and electric connections are insulated from the plenum chamber. The injector heads easily cleaned and clipped back in. You still have to remove the lower manifold to clear the carbon mess clogging the discharge areas whether or not you're replacing the injector unit or not. IDK just saying after all the smack I've heard about the much maligned " spider injection".

the lower manifold ports are numbered. if you clean it you'll see its numbered

There are numbers on the intake when you pull the injector out you will see them

I have a 96 chevy silverado 5.7 and replace the fuel pressure regulator and I'm only getting gas on the driver side plugs. Any ideals

Great video. Near the beginning you started about a video deleting the ERG. If I heard you right do you have a video on this subject? I’ve deleted the EGR pipe connection to the lower manifold and sealed it with JB High Temp. And capped off the pipe near the exhaust manifold. But I have not done anything with the sensor yet. So what do you think?

We actually did it the other day but didn't get film of it. With all the epa bs we figured against it. You can get the kit off eBay with both caps and the block off plate. The egr is just two bolts and un plug it.

@@Steve-cs3ttit will set the check engine light but thats it. You can use something like hp tuners to "turn off the egr" along with the rear oxygen sensors vats, etc

Installed mine today and truck started right up. When I put it in gear it acts like it’s going to die then surges hard. If I press the throttle at idle it revs decent but when in gear the throttle kills it. Any advice from anyone who has installed one of these?

that fuel line connection in the back will make you cuss the designer should have been wacked in the back of the head when he put that on paper actually that whole system completely sucks for the most part just like the intank fuel pump without a removeable panal to easily change it

why can't I find a spider upgrade for a 4.3L 2013 silverado?? They have individual AC Delco injectors or rebuilt AUS assemblies but no new AC Delco multiport assembly? somebody help?

Hey, thanks for making this video. I recently did this conversion on my 96 K2500 with a vortec 5.7, and I’m having some problems. It runs great and very smooth while it’s moving, but when it’s stopped I’m having issues. I keep getting a P0174 and P0171 code, which means bank 1 and 2 are lean. It also hesitates when accelerating from a stop, and shakes a lot when stopped when the ac turns on. It has never stalled or anything, and once it’s going down the road it’s fine, but there is definitely a problem. When I clear the the codes with a scanner they do go away, but eventually the cel will come back on the dash at any given point, usually while going down the road. Any help is appreciated.

got the same problem with my 4.3 silverado and have the same codes with hesitant acceleration at a stop did you figure out how to resolve the issue gonna be changing my intake manifold gaskets soon hoping it might fix it.

Thanks for the great vid. I'm working on mine right now and I have 2 injectors from my new part that won't lock into place on the lower intake manifold. Any suggestions?

Two things to consider debris inside the injector pilot holes and if the pop it injector plastic brakes inside fuel injector port then there's plastic in it hopefully it doesn't go any further into the intake because it will definitely be in your engine most people don't mention this part because if the plastic breaks off inside the port and goes inside the engine that is no good for you you will most definitely have to take the whole intake off and hopefully the valve is not open to where it falls further inside the combustion chamber I know somebody that that had happened to and it turned into a much bigger project just because of that little piece of plastic good luck

Fantastic video tutorial. One thing to add, pay close attention to plugging up the wireing harness to the new injector. Those pins are tender and easy to get misaligned and bent causing one or some of the injectors to not operate. That happened to me.. and those pins are very tender and easy to break off. There by ruining a new unit. Btw I was surprised at how much I had to bend the new injector tubes to get then positioned correctly. I feared it was wrong... but the turned out to operate successfully. Mine is a 4.3L

How did this turn out did it run better? I have no check engine light I did fuel pump fuel filter lower intake gaskets… it’s missing up hills really sluggish I can hear it missed hopefully this works

Absolutely nothing. It's in the vacuum all together as it sealed beneath the upper plenum.
