I only use elecrical tape as "backing" and never had any issue so far in my 15 years of pike fishing. Works great!

Same here. I put a sliver of electrical tape on the first loop around the spool and then just spool the line nice and tight. Never had any issues whatsoever on any of the 10+ BC-Reels I've used.

You have just made my mind up to go and get a baitcasting reel because i now understand how to use one. Thanks for the great information, i have always liked the look of baitcasters but i stayed clear as i didn't know how to set one up.

I do that a bit different. Spool the reel however and then when I get out on the riverbank, lure hooks into grass and spool really tight. I found that way easiest by far

How strange I pinged a message on another video regarding baitcaster reels today, your advise on a baitcaster needed please bud limited budget for a baitcaster but unsure of the strength of drag needed for heavy lure fishing some baitcaster 5kg drag some heavier confused 😳

Hey #DBFishing, just to come back to avoid your braid slipping on the spool. If it has holes through it why not tie the braid straight to the spool with an Arbor knot??

Using the spool tension knob to control the spool speed has always struck me as a bit silly. I set it for minimum side to side movement and use my thumb to control the spool speed.

I’ve been casting bait casters for 18 years and NEVER used mono…I’m not being “that guy” but it’s not essential at all 😂…I’ve known men to use electrical tape for 20 years 🤣🤣

As a new person to lure fishing and predator fishing would a normal or bait caster reel be better ?

As someone that has only just swapped over to baitcasters I think they are far more suited to lure fishing, once you have got used to them casting feels for more intuitive and natural, when you are using 50g+ lures your finger will thank you for using one, having your thumb in control of the line also means you can cast far more accurately which has lead to me loosing way less lures. only down side for me is that the reels don’t scream like fixed spools when a fish starts stripping line.

I find you have better casting accuracy with baitcasters , useful when your after thet momma pike chillin under a bush or a tree

Definitely learn with a fixed spool first, you’ll spend a lot more time fishing! It’s also easier to cast light lures if you’re after perch.

@@leftmono1016 yeah anything below 30g then fixed spool is the way to go

@@scottjohnson7394 Which model reel do you have?. There are conversion kits avaliable to enable a clicking / ticking noise when using the clutch to play a fish Scott, just search 'bait caster drag click'. They usually cost between £10-£15. My very 1st bait caster reel was also silent and i fitted one of these kits and it was perfect afterwards.
