Oh Lord YES!! I live in Arizona now and for some reason Pecan is a popular street name here though I can't say I have ever seen a Pecan tree in AZ. Most people here pronounce it Pea-can. I have been in AZ for 2 plus decades, so I have lost much of my Texas accent. I quit saying fixin to, and bar-ette, but I draw the line at Pecan, the word is pronounced Pecawn or Pecon, period.

It is embarrassing how much effort it takes me to give actual directions. It is a physical process for me just to name the street corner (SE corner, NW corner etc...) that a business is on. I have to close my eyes and envision the drive and which way I would be turning to enter the business. I worked with a Veterinarian from Sinaloa, Mexico who spoke very little English and yet he never tired of mocking my complex direction deduction process. There is nothing like having less ability to give clear, concise directions than someone who doesn't even speak the language.

His band was playing at bars and parties all over San Marcos, but he still managed to graduate. Few of us did in those days, because it was such a party school. Those days are over, but people who played there regularly are still around: Kinky Friedman, Chris Cross and George. A glorious time when Gruene Hall wasn't yet a tourist trap - and you could get a beer bottle busted over your head. If we got bored, we could drive to Austin and see The Police at Liberty Lunch for five bucks... 🍺 🍻 🍺

Buc-ee's is a wonderful place that is basically a mega gas station. Always clean bathrooms, always good food, and great place to pick up snacks for on the road, and the merch shop is something to stroll though. If its your first time stopping there, you might wind up taking a bit of time picking up a tee shirt, jerky, the beaver nuggets, and a drink from the fountain before you meander your way out. And people do take pictures by the mascot statue that sits in front of each entrance. Its a whole other experience.
