How to Spot the Difference Between REAL LEGO and FAKE KNOCKOFFS!

As mentioned in the video, I do not like Fake minifigs; this video exists as a guide to make sure you don’t get scammed or conned into buying what you think is official lego, but is actually counterfeit. After lots of requests, I wanted to make a definitive guide to help the Lego community, and I hope this helps bring positive change for anyone that is watching ☺️

Some Fake Minifigs can actually be really high quality, i got a Bootleg Deathstroke a little while ago, the quality is pretty close to an official lego figure and the prints are really solid.

More often than not, you will actually get pretty decent knockoffs. Depends where you look, too. I collect many fakes of X-Men mutants that are too obscure for Lego to ever make, zero shame in it as long as you don't advertise them as real figures.

I must admit I use fake torsos for some characters that Lego hasn't made. I then replace their arms and feet for real pieces - heads especially if I can get away with it. (I point out those that are fake pieces if ever used in pictures though). Then there are some like the new No Way Home Green Goblin that are just amazing as they are! Still, this video is very handy!

I got a koruit ko green goblin, obviously a fake, but that's one amazing figure. Ko did get better over the years with actual custom and unique design and parts. As opposed to decool back in the day with straight stolen figures, like the ones you showed. Great video to show that off

I bought this weird hybrid of fake and real Lego online. Its an Ahsoka figure and the head, body, hips and lightsaber are real, but the hands, arms and legs are fake. The headpiece I’m not 100% sure.

I only tend to get fakes when the chances of them being Lego is slim. Got almost all of Sailor Moon and a few Street Fighters. And I couldn't pass up on that Big Fig Hulk Buster.

I just ordered a Lego Star Wars Hera at Sulla and it was really cheap so I was like omg imma get it ( it was crap fake and bad paint job plus not Lego logos so yeah be carful lmao

It's good to get fake figs (as long as there not bad) but I don't collect fake figs but I don't want to pay like 50 pounds just for a fig and why not get fantastic four figs you can just swap out the heads and hair so I think it's alright to get them

I've collected a lot of the knockoffs over the years mainly because I wanted different variations of characters that lego would never make and liked the cheapness and unique designs of how some of them were made and printed as it made for an interesting side collection that I do not pass of as real Lego. A few of them have actually become really collectable and are worth quite a bit as they were only made for a very short amount of time. There are a lot of unique molds for a lot of figs and big figs made no where else. They are very interesting.

While I do see where you are coming from, I do think you should try find customs instead as the fakes are generally poorly made and have little to no quality control (not to mention highly illegal).

It's impressive how you managed to get actually horrendous knock-off minifigs, most of the ones I buy have really good quality, like some I bought recently from no way home. I'm not against not official figs, it's just a matter of knowing where to buy them and check the reviews, and yeah always buy them online, real life sellers are mostly scammers. Cool vid man...

Also, a tip for people who go to the toy section at flea markets, look at the branding on the boxes they might come in. Sometimes you will see LEGO DC characters on a Marvel box and the same is true for the DC boxes.

Another good tip is, that when you see characters in clear bags and they are completely disassembled (like hands and legs ripped out) they are usually fake. Lego has a strict standard with their minifigure assembly

I like the fact that the fakes come in characters that Lego is never going to make (I.e. Hannible Lecter, KISS Band, etc). I just got a set of the power rangers from the 2017 movie and they are gorgeous! Also some of the accessories that come with the fakes (In my opinion) are far superior to the official brick built accessories that come with the real figures. I just got a Thor that came with a molded storm breaker that is way cooler than the brick built version of the same. Still it sucks when people get scammed and this is a great video to help avoid that. Thanks Johnathan !

I really like lego minifigures but as I live in Brazil, lego is very expensive here, so I collect fake minifigures. a real lego minifigure costs the equivalent of $40

If I must confess, I do collect knockoff minifigures, but only for characters that LEGO hasn't done yet, like for example some x-men characters or the fantastic four (I'm still looking for that Thing minifigure, is very rare) and some brands have really good quality (never LEGO quality but no garbage either), in some cases I retire the knockoff if LEGO creates the minifigure, happened to me a couple of times (Punisher, Daredevil, white Vision, for example). I also collect knockoffs for ultra expensive figures, mostly comic con exclusives like Spider Woman o Jean Grey Phoenix

I'd only suggest buying from established retailers, Bricklink, and Ebay. The word "custom" is thrown around a LOT for fakes, and look for the price to be well under normal- Like .79 cents per fig.

As a huge unofficial collector the only thing I consider a bootleg is a cheaper version of its original self. Something lego hasn’t made is not a bootleg as they are unofficial. Surprisingly unofficial brands have better molds printing etc I wish lego would just team up with the Chinese and Japanese as they are more talented

Two things though that I can't get an answer on is legit head and feet pieces. I have some figures that came out of box sealed sets that have that tri wing head piece not stamped at all, as well as some with nothing on the feet yet torso, neck stamped. In cases like that what do you do, especially when you got them new and know it can't be phony?
