Lovely and helpful way of showing the differences. I have a Badger 150 airbrush with a max size 0.77 nozzle. Would that be enough for the candy paints and clearcoat? I want to paint my GF’s bicycle helmet and need more durability than the model paint acrylics I normally use.

Hi Ryan. Our candies are very tough. Im always masking and cutting over them so you should have no problems tacking between coats.

Thanks for this advice i am about to spray a vespa but i have heard that auto air has trouble holding colour. Once exposed to sun it can lose colour especially candies is this true. I would also like to book one of your custom courses in London.

Hi David. Im glad my videos have helped you. If the guitar is bare wood you will need to use a primer. I would use any good quality 2 pack primer. If it has already been factory painted you need only sand and paint. I would however but down a base coat sealer dark or semi opaque black before the aluminium. With regards to the lacquer again I would use any decent branded 2 pack. You will be able to get these products from your local motor factor.

awesome video once again. but what really brings out the looks of the candys is the clear coat. what type of clear coat were you using? i cant seem to find the right one that brings out its color and gives off a nice gloss.

So I see this is an older video and I'm wanting to paint a golf cart with true flames but seeing that gold is used for apple red has me worried when it comes to other colors unless you have any ideas? Great video.

Hi. I don't have any pictures but I think one of my video clips shows a candy over ground alu, cleared and in the sunlight. I believe its magenta with flames.

great info i want to paint my laptop candy i ordered black apple sunset and yellow also gold base i have an infinity with a .4mm tip should i order the .6 mm tip and use that and is it ok to clear coat with a spray lacquer or single part epoxy i cant afford to get a larger spray gun the infinity was enough for now im not rich ha ha just curious on what your opinion is

Great videos Simon. I use the wicked colors line, but much of what you display in your videos is applicable to the wicked colors. Where can I find those nice paint mixing cups you use? Here in the US I can find some but they're expensive.

Hiya simon, I'm a newbe at this so found the video really good. I intend to paint a guitar body with aluminium Medium, followed by candy. would I need some form of undercoat under the aluminium or can it go directly to the wood and what lacquer should I use over the candy to protect it? wow, i wish i saw this video before i did my bahama candy blue paint on my cb750c . did exactly like you said and i laid it on too think first attempt and got runs bad after a few minutes didnt even think of a heat gun

Our candies will flow through a 0.5 if you reduce enough with 4011. But for larger areas I would recommend a 0.8 mini gun or 1.2 large spray gun.

Hi Norm. If you visit our website there will be info on coverage. For a shadow tank and guards I would imagine approx 480ml of aluminium and 480-600ml of candy.

oh okay thankyou for the tip and your video really helped me. ive been gtting into the candy colors but its so hard knowing what bases to use and the steps to take. but your video really has helped me. i feel like i need a recipe book for all the color combos and effects. for years ive used the old basecoat clearcoat paints from ppg so all these waterbased paints are greek to me haha

Does anyone know if the Auto-Air Candy Paints stick to slick model plastic? Or will the plastic need to be scuffed with 400 to 600 grit wet dry sandpaper? I’d like to use this technique on a model my grandson and I are building.

Hey simon i sprayed candy apple red over some skulls that were highlighted in white. the candy was dark reddish purple. never got true apple red. put about 6 to 7 coats. reduced about 10 percent. what can i do to get in more transparent and red.

Ryan our aluminium's are very pigment heavy and I would not recommend any airbrush with them. A 0.8 mini gun would be ideal.

i spray these candy colors thru my iwatta with a .3 tip and it atomizes no problem..the only tim I have trouble is spraying the aluminum bases cuz of the pearl.

I would only clear coat with a mini gun or full blow spray gun. Its too much for the airbrush at handle. You can buy cheap non branded mini guns on ebay very cheap. The best setup would be 0.8 but a 1mm would also do. You would be best using an automotive 2 pak clear coat. With regards to the needle size for laying down the candies the .6 would be better than the .4. Thanks.

the best thing about auto air is that when the fire marshal catches you painting outside a booth....its water based ! but it takes forever to dry in a high humidity area :( if you're wanting to tape out graphics.

Hi hazzard1701. Sorry for the delay in getting back but Ive been teaching in Germany this week. Many years ago our candies faded over time. However we have changed the binder since then and I can assure you our pigments do not fade. (except fluorescents, but all manufactures fluorscents fade). I would love you to come to my London class. Jonny we have stopped production of the 4012. We now only recommend the 4011.
