At 60 years old I started skating again after a 25-to-30-year layoff so I'm basically re-learning everything I used to do back in the day. Your videos I'm following very carefully. It's starting to comeback. The mental side of remembering the movements and feet placement along with proper weight distribution are what I'm paying particular attention to. My biggest issue is balance as I've had 2 strokes and have a pinched nerve in my left hip, so things are coming along but more slowly than I'd like. I'll get there but not soon enough. Keep the good videos coming, brother. I need them. I know I'm a little late on this, but I just started the re-learning journey about 2 months ago. (5-15-24).

I follow you on 4.3, that's exactly what I was looking for. There is initiation from the shoulders but they stall to prevent a jerky and sudden 180 before the 'follow through' motion. You're really good at explaining this my dude!

A little feed back! This video's volume was too quiet compared side by side to your last video. I liked the volume of your last video, How to Heelside/Frontside stand-up 180 slide for reference. Thanks for your quality instruction! Best on KZbin!!

Thanks for the feedback, didn't realize and I'll have to go check my camera settings. I did think the volume was low but didn't realize it was that bad. Thanks for the heads-up. Glad you like the videos! :)

@@downhill254skate Whoops, I had my KZbin volume down to its lowest setting the last couple of days. So when my computer volume was up 100% It was obviously still low. Thanks!

objective but , I believe , an important moment to point out in this incredibly in-depth, meta useful video; at 09:02 minutes , where our boi is describing his maintenance of pressure/balance thruout the rotation of his TS 180, w/out any drastic input being further necessary, it is safe to point-out that this will exponentially be more true & achievable as your speed increases &/or pitch incline increases. fair statement @Downhill254 ?
@downhill254skate2 жыл бұрын
Yeah kinda true. When you go faster, you just sort of hang in there. You may need to sometimes double down on your weight placement - so you don't get bucked off. But you sort of just hold it.

Always good videos but do you have some progressions leading up to it for people with balls the size of frozen peas?

Thank you! What kinda of video are you looking for exactly? Like something to get used to downhill? It's not clear

@@downhill254skate Hey dude that was quick! I can do almost all slides and go pretty fast downhill safely - hands down, pendy’s, push ups, checks, stand up heel side and heel sides squatters. I’ve just been avoiding stand up toesides. Being 56 (started riding skateboard in my 50s) I’ve got to be super careful when I fall as it can take me out for a while. I love going downhills and do it 3/4 times a week. I just seem to have a block with the stand up toe. Even though I know what I’m meant to do I can’t bring myself to even do a toe check let alone bigger slide or 180. Is there a way I can start small and build up to it?

@@cmorsley I'm just starting my journey bout the same time you did - I hear you on the falling, not as easy as it once was!

@@harrychoke hey that’s great to hear! Man I’ve fallen in just about every way know to man including a surreal moment when I found myself sliding across the road in front of a truck giving him a wave and hitting the steel barrier :-D. There’s some good wake up calls in this sport, you’ve got to be so careful but brave at the same time.. But that high side…mmm not liking it.

@@cmorsleyonly thing coming to mind is pad up and send it. I suppose the easier to learn 180 toes (where you load yourself up as a spring) would be the better place to start. Especially just to get used to the feeling of loading up and sliding with your back down the hill. .. The thing with stand up toes I've learned is the more committed you are, the better it works out. Just see it through. That said, I don't think the risk/reward is worth it. You will definitely fall when learning and if that sets you back quite a bit, I'd recommend you not going for this at all. You don't need to do stand-up toes to enjoy downhill, it's just another challenge, but not one that's needed. Hope that helps!

Bro one question - at the beginning you say 180 is the foundation for all toeside checks. Is that true, and why is that? I learned glove down toesides first bc they're kinda similar to pushup slides at least in the legwork, and now was thinking to try toeside standies and checks, but do I really need to 180 first? My problem with 180s is I can't ride switch lol
@downhill254skate3 жыл бұрын
I learnt checks before 180s tbh. But 180s are easier to do than checks which is why I say learn it first. And bringing it back from switch is just as easy tbh, especially heelside.
