How To Start A 2011 - 2020 Toyota Sienna With Key Not Detected - Dead, Bad, Broken Remote key Fob

A video tutorial on how to start a 2011 - 2020 Toyota Sienna with a remote key fob that has a dead battery or is showing the error message "Key Not Detected".
This will only apply to Toyota Siennas that have a push button start ignition.
If your remote key fob has a dead battery or is broken , you may see an error message of Key Not Detected when you attempt to start your Toyota Sienna. The solution to the key not detected problem is to touch the back of the bad or dead remote key fob to the Stop/Start button, then you will be able to start your Sienna as you normally would.

@@PYR-Auto ty for your response, i think i found what it was. When you get a new remote to synchronize it with the vehicle you hit the lock button 3 times and the car will automatically start and itll be sync with the remote. I think thats what happened. 🤷‍♂️

Hi! My issue is deferent. A week ago I use to just be next to the vehicle and it unlocks by grabbing the handle now it seems like it doesn’t recognize. Use to lit everything from the inside even the courtesy door light. Now not anymore. Any ideas? Thanks. And the transmission signal is so poor. U have to be close enough to activate the key fab.

hello, our 2012 Sienna does not recognize the key, the problem is that it does not turn on anymore, we have already changed the battery and it still does not work, this would be a problem with the control sensor or some other problem with the vehicle, because the battery of the car isn't,it works when we open the doors it turn on the lights help please

How about using the mechanical key?? Can you start it without the key fob, only the hidden key inside n key fob?

No - the mechanical key is only used to open the drivers door

You need to take the emergency key out of the bottom of your smart key then use it to unlock the driver's door. You can see a video of that being done below. Then you will need to start the vehicle as shown in this video to stop the alarm. kzbin.info/www/bejne/oHfViISrZ6tjpaM

Our 2019 Sienna XLE Premium AWD started fine but a block away from home, it said key not detected, but both of our keys were in the van. We put both of them on the center console and it eventually went off, but you better believe we were nervous about getting on the interstate with that warning on the driver screen. I guess our batteries need changed? What size/number are they?

Are you sure you installed the battery correctly? (not upside down) Do you have any other fobs for the vehicle? If so, do they work properly?

If both fobs are acting the same way even after correctly replacing the battery - it's more likely that it is a problem with the vehicle itself. The fobs are the transmitters of the key fob system and then there is a receiver in the vehicle - there may be an issue with the receiver

If the does not work then you may have issues the vehicle itself rather than just the fob battery
