Thanx for the vid Xav, you’ve given me the oomph to tackle repotting my Azara raft which has been steadily climbing out of its tray all year! Travelling mercies for your Orkney Odyssey, God bless you 🙏✝️. ✌️🇷🇺☮️🇺🇦✌️

Thanks for the hands on videos. The potting mix here is generally the same; fine particles that stay wet and don't get any air to the roots. I'm sure your trees will appreciate the nice gritty soil.

I just hope they have enough time to recover before winter sets in. I will definitely put them in the cold frame.

I think you are right about the 'blessing and a curse'...no such thing as summer holidays anymore. All mine happen in October...when its raining :)

That Harry fellow taught me a few tips as well. Hehe I’m diggin your quince, good sir. Very intrigued by the late season root work. Not crapping on it by any means, just intrigued. Fingers crossed 🤞🏼 you’ll have an update for us come spring

Cool snack for later! Those trees look good, they will do much better in the new soil! I wish I could afford the better soil, but not quite yet unfortunately.

Japanese Quince are very challenging for bonsai, there's only one way to get them to pop secondaries so it takes a lot longer to build a decent bonsai.

Thanks - I am only new to this variety so still finding out these things. Any tips would be useful. Cheers :)

Nice video, Xav! I look forward to seeing these trees flour. I was gifted a couple of Quince last spring, and they have grown on very well. I donknow if mine are Japanese or not but their flowers are gorgeous. Cheers!

You are right about the flowers - mine bloomed twice within the year. I am still getting to grips with how these respond to my clumsy efforts. So it should be a fun journey :)

I admire your spirit of adventure with the late repots. i am a little concerned at the amount of foliage you have taken off. It is my understanding (perhaps mistakenly) that auxin is a key regulator of root growth and having chopped off so much foliage you will have removed a large amount of auxin too. Looking forward to your "i told you so" in spring 😉 Thanks for all the work you do to keep us informed.
@XaviersBonsaiRetreat11 ай бұрын
I feel your anxiety too. I may have taken off a lot more than intended but we shall just have to see how things turn out in the spring. Having seen the state of the soil there was no way they would have got through another winter. I really did leave it too long to get them out of that soil. The learning never stops :)

I have some that I am growing from 2 year old saplings but they are very immature still. I don't like how nobbly they get and i struggle with woolly aphids on them too.
