From someone who has helping a number of new folks start farming I absolutely feel the first piece of infacture needs to be a containment area of some kind for loading/ restraining cattle. The wheels fall off the bus when treating/ loading day comes-bar none. Cattle are large,heavy and them just wanting to go back to the shade tree and have some space can go horribly wrong. Throw a few strangers and a noisy trailer into the mix and look out. And no, hay bales and pallets are not a coral. It can be portable, borrowed and simple but it needs to exist-somewhere. I helped a family "finish up" her dream of owning some cows yesterday. We got it done safely with experience but thats the one thing folks new to farming don't have yet. Best suggestion I have is find someone in your area growing cattle the way you want to and volunteer ; a lot.

Great video. The only thing I disagree with is your definition of overgrazing. Overgrazing is when the recovery period is too short to allow a plant to fully recover its root reserves before being regrazed. It has nothing do do with how many bites a cow takes or how much of a plant is eaten. This is explained fully in Allan’s Savoury’s book Holistic Management. You can never stop an animal from eating a palatable plant right to the ground which they might do within seconds of entering a paddock. What you can do is through animal intensity and time management ensure everything is eaten and then make sure key species are fully recovered before the next graze.

Hey! Well, in addition to traditional bank loans, government programs, farm credit, or grants, you might try to find leasing opportunities with other landowners in your area to get started!

The goal is to eat less meat and improve environment with less producing methane from cattle
@Marilou-g5t3 ай бұрын
@@cathycharron-folsom4504 properly managed ruminants, (cattle, sheep, goats,...) add carbon to the soil. Humans eating meat is healthier for humans than eating carbohydrates. See Michaela Peterson and others on the lion or carnivore diet. Carbs make us fat, diabetic, deprive our brains of needed fats for optimal brain function and cause many other harms to human bodies. Ruminants are made to eat grasses and other forages. We lack the rumen, while ruminants have the ability to graze a lot of forages quickly, birp it up later and chew the cud, and then the food is properly digested.

I live in Illinois where we grow mostly Corn (Maize) and Soybean for use as livestock feed. We have 27,000,000 acres plowed and sprayed with fungicide, pesticide and herbicide. Our stream and rivers run black with top soil. The University Budgets for Crops contain no Cost for Soil lost to erosion. Growing grains to feed livestock is unsustainable over the long-term. Cattle and Sheep Ranching should be encouraged.
