I must say as someone who has worked at several day cares, it's not playing with doggos all day. You're a life guard, constantly scanning for trouble. You MUST like people too. It's not enough to love animals, you have to like their guardians too.

Right? I worked at a high-volume kennel and playgroup was nerve wracking! Managing groups of dogs is hard work, and can go sideways quickly. Good point about liking people. You can't just be an "animal person" and be successful in customer service.

I'm doing this now. I love it, but i feel like my home has been consumed by my business and my family is displaced a lot. I would like to figure out a balance this year

It is possible to become a victim of your own success! Congrats for growing your business. Now it is time to decide what you want and need and plan for the future. One good way to reduce volume is to raise prices. You will retain good clients happy to pay your rates and work less.

I am trying to educate myself as I am thinking about opening a dog daycare in my home. Any advice for a novice. I am very experienced with dog handling but never started a business.

@@FirstStreetPets how can I get a hold of you. I’m in Sac. I’m very interested in getting into the boarding business. I’ve dabbled in it. I have experience with dogs. I prefer dealing with big dogs. I found a niche with dealing with the bully breeds, Belgian Malinois and Dobermans. So Im really considering doing it full time.
