This video is great. You should make an update video on this. 😉

Thank you for the video, it is packed with great information. I hadabsolutely no plans to start a farm but my husband found an injured baby robin with no nest in sight. So I bought some mealworms from our local feed/petshop. Then I discovered that my rescued raccoon loves mealworms. So even though the robin has recovered and has flown away to join a flock, I am now feeding them to my raccoon lol. So I best get started on a farm. Thanks again guys and keep up the great work.

this was fun and full of info. thank you for taking the time and sharing. your day. Instead of paper towel on top of worms, I have used an empty toilet paper roll, cut in half or left whole. they seem to love them and I find it easier to transfer my beetles to a new shoe box with them clinging onto the cardboard than to sift them through a strainer. Y'all have a blessed day.

This video maybe the most logical one i have watched. I have avoided growing meal worms because all of the other videos showing the constant sifting, seperating, yadda yadda. I am wanting to grow fishing bait. This sounds like it would not be a big deal. I already have the worm farm to recycle the bran.

Great video, thank you. Most interesting one I've watched so far! Very interesting that you've been selectively breeding the mealworms, I'm going to try that. Also found the bio-remediation information fascinating.

Hello! Thanks for the great information!! I have just a small tidbit. Years ago I was raising mealworms in a tent in my back yard. I had them in a few small pools because I needed lots for my chickens. When my beetles developed they started flying around the tent. I'm thinking that there behavior may be different depending on the environment they are reared in, the amount of sunlight they receive, or natural temperature changes. Your thoughts are very welcome.

Id also like to know how to get the mealworms out to feed my birds or it is ok to just grab a handful or everything for them? Will doing that deplete my colony? Also do I not have to heat sterilize the wheat germ to prevent my house getting infested with moths? Otherwise, great video I am always for simplifying, as long as it doen't hurt the critters.

Can you go over the benefit of forcing pupation at 4 weeks, please? And is using the ice tray as simple as just putting individuals into a section of the icecube tray?

We use oats because for whatever reason wheat bran is expensive. Awesome video! Edit: oooh I didn’t realize it was animal feed bran! Gonna look for that!

Please tell us about your lid. How big should the hole be? does it have to have a lid? does the lid have to have a hole?
@S.Trades Жыл бұрын
You really don't need a lid to keep them in. They just burrow and feed. And wriggle and feed. They don't normally get out (or try to get out).👍I've never used a lid.

Some do fly but it seems most types don’t. Ours did fine with just a dozen poked holes. I had a problem with keeping it too moist got mold which killed a lot 😅

We need to stop destroying our soil, I love this video and the points you are making. I want to start a meal worm farm to feed our chickens and ducks. You make it so simple and less expensive, giving so much incite. I object to breaking down beautiful manure. 🤣 Animals restore our soil, vegetable farming does not. Botany 101 should be a required course in the 8th grade. Vegetables protect themselves from being eaten with poisons naturally. Dr Anthony Chaffee. We cannot digest fiber it rots in our intestines, meat digest’s in the stomach acid in our guts.

They absolutely show and discuss the lid as well as cutting a hole with a pocket knife at about 7 minutes in or so.
