Thanks for sharing this! Super informative and helpful. My family and I are urban homesteaders too. We just invested in some egg laying chickens and love growing our own vegetables in the backyard. Dad had his worm farm last year and we had some great compost as soil. But then he neglected his worms and they died :( So now I'm thinking of taking over and doing a worm farm. These videos couldn't have come at a better time! :)

Excellent video! It is definitely on my list to start a worm farm as Leon's project. We have lots of worms in our soil at the pasture, I wonder how many we could collect to use in the worm farm :)
@heyitsagoodlife4 жыл бұрын
Hey thank you. That means a lot. And that’s a great idea. Let me know if you do it. I’m curious how it will work. You could totally use pasture worms. They may just feed a little differently than red wigglers it European nightcrawlers

Hey Natalie, got a question. My 'black gold' is ready to harvest! I've got a lot of worms! I've been trying the feed on one side of the bin and let the worms go to food and then you are supposed to be able to scoop up from the opposite side 🙃... well I think I have too many 🐛🐛🐛🐛🐛🐛worms. I am stuck and I don't know what to do. And pretty much all that's in my bin is moist black gold and worms🐛! Help! My bin system right now is a Rubbermaid type bin. I drilled holes in the bottom and upper sides and lid for air. It must be ok because they are reproducing like rabbits 🐇🐇. I have the bin sitting on an old lid and it has nice worm castings that have soaked/leaked through. The 🐛worms are so happy 😊 I keep finding a bunch on the bottom lid and climbing up the sides and onto the lid! HELP ME! Thanks so much! Debra, your neighbor in Vista 😅 Ps. I still need to give you some fresh eggs 🥚 😁

Time to expand your worm farm. Split your bins. OR add worms and castings to your garden and leave just a layer or so of existing castings and worms in your and keep it going. Good luck!!

Yep. Absolutely. One of the many benefits of a worm farm is they multiply quickly under right conditions. They would make great fishing worms

I am splitting my worm bin to create a second bin, so I can grow the population. Any tips on getting the worms to multiply like crazy? I’m getting chickens soon and would love to be able to give my chickens some worms. Thanks from South Africa
@heyitsagoodlife4 жыл бұрын
How fun. And hello! I would add some kelp meal (that really gets things going) and keep your bin’s moisture really well balanced. Also don’t over feed but it sounds like you know that by now! The more ideal the conditions the more quickly they will breed
@Travelingforlife Жыл бұрын
Can anyone answer my question? If you have a two bin stacking system, does the upper bin sit on the compost of the bottom for future migration?

@heyitsagoodlife4 жыл бұрын
Yes. Worm castings and worm tea will be your new bff. Did you know foliar feeding your plants worm tea can boost immunity to pests and diseases? I’ve noticed a huge difference. This stackable unit is an urbalive unit once available through gardeners supply. But you can easily make your own with some Rubbermaid tubs. Video on my big setup coming soon. I also have some ebooks available. One is a free quick start guide. It may prove useful to you!

I’m assuming you’ve quit making videos. I’m not seeing anything that’s not a year old or more, and your link for the worm checklist doesn’t work. I hope you just moved on to something else, and that there has not been some tragedy. If there has, you have my prayers. Your videos were great and I have been thinking of starting a worm bin to supplement my garden, but I’ll find other sources. Thank you for what you’ve given us gardeners. May God bless you and keep you.

@@heyitsagoodlife I'm new to all of this so I don't mean to be rude but whats the point? I'd have to buy a lot of dirt for the worm bin. Doesn't seem like the yield is great.
@heyitsagoodlife3 жыл бұрын
I hear you. & it shouldn’t require too much dirt really. For me the point is making a lot of compost in a small area. It’s also about stewardship, believing that caring fir these small creatures will teach me how to have the capacity to care for larger creatures later.
