This is actually a question I get quite often from my followers and that is how to start creating crochet patterns and if I have any tips. Today’s video I will be going through some tips that will help you kick start creating crochet patterns. Selling digital patterns is a no brainer as it is a great form of passive income. You just create the pattern, upload it online and just let it sit in your ecommerce stores and wait for people to purchase it. Most of my sales are my digital patterns, which is the reason why I keep designing. I always aim to design 2 - 3 patterns a month, just to keep my followers interested. When I first started, I was very unsure and wasn’t confident that people would like my designs to purchase the pattern. I had to find that confidence and did a few things to get me started. This video will go through the steps I take to create my digital crochet patterns and any tips I have as I go through this process.

I love that you felt ready to create your own patterns after 2 years of crocheting. I've been crocheting for 14 years and have only recently decided to start writing and sharing my ideas with the world

Thanks for this video! I recently decided to start making baby clothing & accessories patterns and it’s a lengthy process. Lots of trial and error but it feels so nice to look at the finished product and know that you created it!!

Hi Chloe, I love to crochet but I feel like I’m not creative enough to make any patterns. I really like your video but I’m just not confident or creative enough to do this! Is there any way to help me get over this fear of starting? Thanks!
@chloeeyuen

Hi Emma, honestly I was the same at the start. I lacked a lot of confidence to create my own designs...but what I think really built my confidence up was constantly making amigurumis and understanding how to create the shapes. My very first pattern wasn't perfect but it is what got me started. Don't hesitate, the first step is always the hardest, but once you make that first move to design your first pattern you will realise your potential. Also, don't rush the process, take your time. It's okay to fail because you learn as you go. Also, start small, design something that is easy for you as well. I hope this message gives you the confidence to start ❤️.

Hi Chloe, I really enjoyed your video and your genuine experience in the journey of creating pattern. I am going into the area of creating handbags. I am building my first pattern and would love you advice on how to find good and honest testers. Would have to pay them money or is this a voluntary assistance. How do you ensure that they won't steal your pattern and issue it online? Can you pm of any honest testers you have used please? Your assistance is much appreciated. Thank you

Hi Chloe, Thanks for your videos. They are really helpful. I appreciate you sharing your knowledge and experience. I am almost finished a pattern design and so am nearly at the stage of finding testers. I haven't worked with testers before so just wondering how you initially found your testers when you first started out. My design is for a magazine so I also can't post any photos of my design on social media until the mag is out. Any suggestions you have would be great. Thanks Chloe 😊

Hi Kristy, thanks for your question 😊. I initially just reached out to other crocheters and asked if they were interested to test my pattern. A lot of crochet tester accounts are public and would also state in their bio if they are testers. Don't be afraid to ask, the crochet community is so amazing, so you definitely won't have any troubles finding a few testers 😊.

Hi Chloe. This was very helpful. I am thinking of starting designing my own amigirumi patterns to sell. I just wondered what do you do about copyright of your patterns? How does this work?
@chloeeyuen
@chloeeyuen 2 жыл бұрын
Ahh that is a very good question, it's a tough one too, there will always be people who will try to steal your patterns and there's not much we can do, unfortunately... Thankfully the crochet community is amazing and is always on the lookout for people who steal other peoples patterns and will report it straight away on platforms like Etsy. Also, have your logo or even a water mark on every page or somewhere in your pattern as well.

My problem is that I don't clearly understand the application of each crochet stitch. So I can't write my own crochet pattern. Actually explaining my problem is very difficult but I will try: Creating the pattern The desired shape is very difficult, you must understand each application, how to combine stitches as well as the number of stitches. That is important to help you write crochet patterns from scratch
@chloeeyuen
@chloeeyuen 11 ай бұрын
Yes, I totally understand. I would say I was the same at the beginning, but I started studying the patterns and making as many different shapes and experimenting. It definitely takes a lot of practice and patience 😅

Hi Chloe, how do you prevent others reselling your pattern after they purchased and downloaded the pattern? TIA!
@chloeeyuen
@chloeeyuen 5 ай бұрын
That's a really good question and unfortunately I dont have an answer to...unfortunately we can't control what people do with our patterns once they have purchased it, even with a disclaimer. However, the crochet community is amazing and will report any stolen patterns and make it known to the original designer.

Hello Chloe, how or where do you find testers?

I found mine through instagram, just doing some research and seeing who other designers used for testers. Many designers mention their testers in their posts. You can also post a tester call on IG as well and people will reach out to you to express interest 😊

Where would you suggest I look for trustworthy testers that give good feedback?
@chloeeyuen
@chloeeyuen 8 ай бұрын
It's very hard to know until you have them testing for you. I would say, look at other designers and see who they use, most designers will tag their testers. That would be a good place to start. Also, always write a guideline of what you are expecting from your testers and what they need to look out for helps too 😊

How do you prevent yourself from creating a pattern (unknowingly, of course) that might have been created by someone else? Because, say for a hat or scarf, how many different ways are there to make them aside from changing colors and stitches?
@chloeeyuen
@chloeeyuen Жыл бұрын
That's a really good question..I thinks it's very hard to know unless you do a lot of market research to see what's out there so your designs don't clash..but there will always be very similar designs, you just have to try and add your own touch to the pattern and make it different that way.
