Hey Emily, self taught nail person here! I’ve found what works for me and don’t really need the basics anymore, however, I think it could be super beneficial to make this a little series on your channel. Like you could do a video on acrylic basics and the different techniques (paper forms & tips), along with polygel basics and the different techniques (paper & dual forms, tips)! I know like half of the steps for the prep will be the exact same as what’s in this video but it still might be something interesting/helpful for beginners :) thanks again for teaching me so much about nails and for keeping me inspired to create new sets 🥰

The 90’s hair vibes 😍 Edit: also a HUGE must for me are Scott shop towels. They’re meant for mechanics so they’re super absorbent AND lint free too. So you can cut them up and use them as lint free pads and also lay it down over your work surface for wiping!

Same here with sensory issues, plus, having natural nails repulse me 😬 but I found there is always a way one can find that works for them after years of research in practice. I bit my nails (again, to not look at them/see them), until 30 years old. Tried doing nail extensions since 15 years old. Finally found a way at 31 by combining "dip system" (2%) and uv gel (98%) ingredients, with press on nails and gel x techniques. If you enjoy art of nails extensions, I hope you find a way for it to work for you 🥰

As a beginner doing nails for only past few months, I can suggest to build the kit slowly, so the learning process isn’t all over the place. Start with just gel polishes and basic manicure , and with time get brushes, gels and even an e-file. I only just did my first extensions after finally getting confident with my nail prep and technique. I still have a lot to learn, but had enough time to focus on basic skills while researching new ones. Learning to do your own nails is certainly a journey, but you can’t stop once you begin.

I’ve been doing my own nails for 2.5 years now and I second all of your recommendations! As someone who does her nails about every 2 weeks, I still have a good bit of the young nails protein bond mini bottle AND I’ve spilled a little! So that stuff lasts forever and is worth the splurge! I also like the Eternal 99% alcohol, I have found that it’s the only one that doesn’t leave streaks! And a tip cutter is also very handy if you want to splurge!

🥰Love this video. Recommending the solid nail glue was genius! It really will cut down so much on frustration with tip application. And it holds so much better than regular glue or base coat! As an allergy sufferer, I appreciated the warning about keeping gel off the skin. If any other allergy sufferers are watching this, I HAVE tested Makarrt’s solid glue, with NO REACTION! 😍

My starter kit I started with was a morovan polygel starter kit! It was perfect, came with like 6 or 7.polygel colors, dehydrater, primer, file, buffer, slip solution, base and top coat, polygel brush, clean up brush and dotting tool combo, glitters, striping tape, rhinestones, dual forms, paper forms, cuticle scraper, nail clipper, cuticle pusher, dampen dish and a great strong led lamp! And I think it cost me like 40 or 45 dollars....and it was a awesome kit! Literally comes with everything u need to get started! I highly recommend it to beginners. It was the morovan polygel kit that had all that stuff and had the nude, pink, white, clear and 2 color changing polygels!

I never did my own nails before until I stumbled across a local Amazon Returns store and found a polygel kit $20. It came with 6 colours, all different purples. Using it I’ve come to realize I don’t like Dual forms but I like the polygel. I think I’d prefer to lay polygel over a tip, and I think I prefer just tips over full covers. So I’ve decided all I need now is to buy the tips and I need a nude polygel and a clear. And then I’ll use some of my 100 regular polishes over top. That’s gonna be my cheap way of doing it.

The cheap polygel kits/ dip nail with gel, and beetles gel kit have been lifesavers! $20/30 Been doing my nails for about a year. I never like them when I go to the salon. Hubby said they look better than salon lol make him help too. Eventually started investing in more stuff but I started out cheap cheap

The bettels nail glue is also a great choice and if you want a shorter soft gel nails the gelike ec nails are a great dupe for the apres xx

Emily this video presentation was extremely informative and well done. I appreciate the breakdown of products needed for nail application and design. I am a simple glue and full cover nail girl. But I like the products you recommended for nail files, dehydrate and primers. Very helpful 👌 ☺ 🙂 Thank you so much. And your nail design came out really cute!

Thank you for the video! Recently I've been wanting to try and do press-on nails myself, but wasn't sure about what press-ons to look for and how best to apply them, so this was really helpful, thank you!!! ❤

Fabulous tutorial...This helps new starters, as well as, the semi-experience nails enthusiasts. Great info you shared, covering products and why you use what you use. So, so cool you thought to do this. Too often we watch the products and techniques in a video not knowing or understanding why its necessary and the Utubers may explain the whys but sometimes you're left to your own understanding. Thanks for this.

this was so helpful. I just recently started doing my own nails (just gel polish) and I am so relieved to know that I am using some of the same products you recommended in the video. ALSO I've tried using the beetles "gel x" nails on my friend and using the gel glue that came with the kit can be a pain, I never knew about the thick gel and I am def getting some to try! ❤

Thank you for recommending products. I've been doing my own nails for a while now but struggled to find full cover tips with no "c" curve that will work for me. 🙂😉
