I got started for $50 in july. I bought 85 metal with wood seat chairs from a church rummage sale for $50. Then I posted on my fb page and some groups asking if anyone had some old banquet tables for sale, and I ended up collecting 8 pretty beat up tables for free. I rented them out twice before selling all 8 for $100 and bought 3 plastic 6ft lifetime tables locally. After a few more small rentals I bought 4 more tables. So total now I have 85 chairs and 7 plastic folding tables. I usually have 1-2 small rentals every weekend. I only advertise on the facebook market place. I usually average $200-400 a month, which isnt much but its slowly being snowballed into more tables and eventually new chairs. It also pays my $100/month storage fee which I also store other stuff in. I think one or 2 more seasons and I'll be in a pretty good place equipment wise. Plan to pickup some pop up tents over this winter to prepare for spring.

How should I handle the money coming in and where it should go and how to put in order bookings ?
@TheRentalJourney3 жыл бұрын
- Put it into a business bank account. - Use a software program for bookings. Wave Accounting is a free one that accepts credit cards.

Hello. I’m Eric from Marquee Hire Sydney. This man speaks the truth! I bought 2nd hand marquees, tables, chairs, walls, sandbag weights, everything, and despite Covid affecting the events industry, we still managed to make enough money to be able to completely upgrade all our equipment within our very first 10 months. Now we are proud when we put up our brand new commercial grade marquees and fresh hire equipment. You definitely must work very hard and continually sharpen your system, but if you spend the time researching, there’s PLENTY of work out there. Here’s a little secret tip... choose a smart business name that serves you without having to push it too hard 😉

So I took your advice and posted chairs and tables pics on FB marketplace and Instagram and yes! I’ve had about 5-6 ppl messaging me about renting them....these people need chairs and table for at least 150 PEOPLE!!! I can’t fulfill that request at $80 per tables; even if I take full deposit; that’s like nothing lol I’m renting these tables at $8 a piece which is the market around here. Idk what to do 🤦🏾♀️🤦🏾♀️
@TheRentalJourney5 жыл бұрын
Look for used gear. And if tables are $80 and renting for $8 that's only a 10x difference. All you need is 20 bookings to cover your full cost of those tables. If you already have 5-6 bookings you can probably get another 15 before Spring easy. It is a little scary.

Gorothbalion yes. I’ve looked through Craigslist; trying to figure out how to maybe find restaurants that wants to get rid of their tables or chairs if they’re remodeling etc! Hope to figure it out! Thank you! I appreciate that!

Rent a little garage?
@420tradesmith5 жыл бұрын
I dont know so much about that. Facebook groups is over filled with that stuff and competitive pricing. Say maybe the usual about $100-150 for 6 tables, 60 chairs, and a bouncer. That’ll run you a few hundred to be able to buy. Motivational but not sure pre booking without equipment is a way to go.
@TheRentalJourney5 жыл бұрын
I suppose they're just words. Maybe next off season what I'll do is actually try to do exactly that on camera starting with $0. Just to prove it's possible. And hey maybe I'll fail to the cheers of critics. Regardless, I think that would be a fun series of videos.

Great advice! I have everything I need to start my rental business except the transportation part. My truck is in the shop its going to be a couple more weeks before it gets fixed. What do you recommend to transport my rental equipment?

Truck trailer, van works, or cube truck. If you're just starting use what you have.

I hired 3 ladies one after another. First one worked 2 weeks, second a short time also but don't remember quite how long, third lady worked about 5 months. But I hired them all directly. In the end me picking up the phone ended up being better in terms of customer acquisition.
