Speaking on your own is really useful, I also recommend writing daily journal in a foreign language. No one understands it✨

Yes. Especially if your handwriting is different from normal handwriting. I can write in cursive in my native language. But in English, the letters are written differently. I haven't learned italics in English yet. And I write letters as if in my native language. I don't think anyone will read this but me.

Great tips, I totally agree. 👍 I speak 3 foreign languages and that's how I learned too. Curiosity, necessity, the joy of communicating with foreign people were my reasons. I moved to Germany a while ago and without visiting a language course I was able to speak German. Why? Because I felt that I must learn this language. I learned what I needed for the doctor for example. Or before an appointment I memorized relatable words or sentences that I would need. And I had pleasure while I was doing it. It's not just about living in that country. I see a lot of people here that don't speak a word in German. So the main focus is to find your inner reason and motivation. 😊🙋🏻‍♀️

People often ask how to learn vocabulary. And my answer is: if your learning methods sufficiently activate the vocabulary, it should not be necessary to sit down and memorize vocabulary. If you are finding this necessary, it's a sign that there is a need to switch to learning methods that activate the language more intensively in every way: speaking, listening, reading, writing, naturally focusing on the skills that you find most difficult.

These are great tips, When I learned Spanish I focused on words that were relevant to me, my life, and my interest. Now at a more intermediate level, I am still learning " beginner" words because they simply don't come up enough for me to focus on them. This is the biggest tip IMO because you feel fluent faster

Excellent tips. I would add one more thing to it, before one can decide which resources to choose, research that language heavily. See how its functions differently from English or whatever language that you will be using to learn from, and what are the similarities. All these can even be found on KZbin vids. After that, pick some good resources and you are ready to dive.

Zaman geçince endişelenmeye başladım acaba sana birşey oldu mu diye depremden dolayı (ya da akrabalarına). Bu videoyu görünce içimden çok rahatladım ve iyi olduğunu öğrendim. Geçmiş olsun size. 7:31 For real! Personally I first find some video about anything in the target language to have an idea about the sound and speed of the language, then I've learnt from past experience to focus on learning basic vocabulary I would actually use. I don't think there's any chance of going for example to a restaurant in Korea therefore I would not stress about learning restaurant vocabulary. Exactly like the example you gave on learning the names of fruits. As for remembering vocabulary, which is something I see a lot of people struggle with, instead of using this or that app/site/method I simply go by logic... I try using the word asap, after some minutes or hours I try using it again because repetition is key. But repeating in a smart way.

I would totally agree with your point to use resources at a very beginning of your language journey. 👉🏻I would add that the way of learning a new language depends on your current background. What I mean by this, my approach differentiates on the basis of whether the target language is similar to the languages I already speak. Of course one more thing to consider is whether the person who is learning a language has any experience with learning languages. This is a huge advantage. Great video, Iclal. 😊

I totally agree that you have to actually practice and try to use the language. It can be surprisingly hard to be active sometimes! The way I was taught in school growing up felt very passive; the teacher had to make me learn. That’s a very slow way to learn a language!

I did start learning English after I came from military the time I was 30 years old. And I am majoring in ELT. There were some polygots like yourself İclal. They made me think of this journey and that time I never stumbled on anything and I took uni entry exam only in 3,5 month later I felt shy because the students are younger than me now we are good mates.I cried and I was gonna drop out of school, but one of my teaching staff told me I should not.I am really good at speaking in English though I had not spoken before until I went to uni. What I can tell is that the more we learn earlier the lucier we are . Age is a wee tad a problem. It is all about our expectations and neseccesites.I happened upon your interview with a polygot whom I personally follow.Indeed I will learn one more or more than one who knows .Right now I am fully focused on KPSS.May Allah grand me and the others wanting succesfull in what they want. Ameen.

When you were learning Russian how did you start speaking with cases? I’m learning Polish and I have a pretty large vocabulary but can’t put sentences together because it seems there are 8 different forms of the same word. I don’t mind messing up one word, but when it’s a long sentence I don’t even know where to start

I checked the translations with a friend of mine from Chile - she said it got them all correct(!) Of course all the tips in this video are necessary but for grammar explanations of Spanish - the recently arrived ChatGPT is useful.
