I think to say Simonson established the concepts of Thor traveling space does a disservice to Kirby’s multiple runs in space.

I have read Thor way back in the day from when the title was initially called: Journey Into Mystery with Stan Lee & Jack King Kirby up until the early 1990s. And although I have not collected Thor since then, I have dabbled a bit on some of the stories and artists who continue to draw Thor. I am most impressed with the artwork of Esad T. Ribić. In my opinion, he has to be the best de facto Thor artist of all time to date - he's my personal favorite. I guess he could personify Thor arguably better than other artist probably due to him being from Europe. Croatia I believe. I'm certain other fans have their favorite artist. And Walt Simonson is definitely the writer artist that definitely established the groundwork for Thor's awesome Marvel Mythology. And yes, I won't forget Stan Lee's and Jack King Kirby for putting adventure into the character. When defining most of the Marvel Universe, Thor has been the key most character of being just about everywhere in the MU. I have read stories in which very unique and cosmically powered characters have been in Thor - i.e., Galactus, the Watcher, members of the Elders of the Universe, Celestials. And various alien races - Kree, Skrulls, Rigelians,. Even an android was introduced in his stories way back in the day - the Recorder. Various godlike races such as the Olympians, Eternals and more also appeared in Thor. The list goes on. No other comic title has bridged dimensions and parts of the universe or multiverse than Thor. Maybe Dr. Strange & the Fantastic Four are comparable titles when exploring the expanded Marvel Universe. I appreciate this video explaining how to read Thor. Thor is one of my all time favorite characters. I'm glad some good writers and artists took a run at Thor after Simonson. Would love to hear some feedback from some Thor fans - especially fans who have collected his books after the early 1990s. Thanks.

I had a whole existential thought about how it’s crazy how in main continuity the heroes win 90% of the time but imagine if it weren’t that way if we were like an actual wars where we were introduce the characters that we loved and they were killed inside losing and winning different battles through their lives

You mentioned how new writers took what old writers did and build upon it, without mentioning that that’s basically how the character got started. Stan Lee and Jack Kirby took a character from mythology and folklore, to make a superhero.

The first two omnibuses are the greatest place to start. I’d even add vol 3 but first 2 and then simonson. Don’t even bother with Aaron’s run. Start form the beginning, you’ll appreciate everything more. What kills me is that everyone can go back to the beginning in this day and age, spend less money and learn to appreciate all the groundbreaking tweaks along the way which makes modern runs more impactful however unless uve been reading comics for years I’d completely ignore everything after 2010 in marvel. Stay off KZbin and start from the beginning. There’s way too much content available today, to get caught up buying modern comics which are practically owned by Disney and Warner brothers. Big events forcing u to read everything in the line with a bunch of gimmicks is more important than story. All new readers should start at the beginning of their favorite character and go from there. I wish I could experience all the epic stories like I did when they released.

This list is heavily biased toward post-2000. Absolutely ZERO mention of Silver Age Thor, which is some of the very best Thor. Have you read it? If not, you should not be telling anyone else where to start reading comics. I'd actually recommend the Silver Age Thor as a great starting point. A lot of great Thor stuff came out in the '70s, too, that I would put ahead of Straczynski and Gillen's work, and you don't even mention it. And, even though Tom DeFalco's run had its weak points, it gave us the Black Galaxy Saga and a lot of other fun cosmic stuff, and space-traveling Thor is a personal favorite. And you're completely wrong that "all the stuff you like about Thor" came from Simonson's run. Marvel's been publishing Thor comics since the early '60s; he was a successful and popular character all those years for a reason, and you covered ONE creator's work from before 2006. You really need to pay your dues and read more comics if you're going to claim to be an authority on how to read them.

If you looking for something retro that isn't exactly Silver Age, I'd recommend something from the Heroes Return era (I've currently read Captain America, Thor, and Fantastic Four). If you're looking for something more modern, I'd reccommend something from the Marvel NOW era (particularly the Avengers line of books).

@tomlandon209

Interesting idea. Storm has striking STRAIT, white hair and deep brown skin. Such a combination might be seen in people who are prematurely gray. African Americans with blond to strawberry blond hair have albinism. Their hair is kinky or curly. Albinism results in pink skin with visible blue veins, WHITE EYELASHES AND BROWS, blue eyes, VERY POOR VISION, skin that burns easily and is likely to develop skin cancers. The lack of pigment makes eyes LOOK blue and makes them VERY sensitive to light, which would make them more comfortable at twlight, deep forests, in dark realms, and at night. There was a small tribe of Native Americans in the Pacific Northwest whom other tribes called "children of the Moon." Albinos are frequently believed to be witches or sorcerers. As their vision would make them terrible hunters, in tribal societies they would thrive at occupations requiring specialized knowledge or craftsmanship.
