Prone TR is my discipline. Both rimfire at 25yd or 50m and centre fire at 300, 600 and 1000yd. And I have to say that prone TR is the most relaxing thing possible. Especially rimfire. The accuracy/precision needed is so high that its impossible to think about anything other than what you are doing. All of life's stresses will melt away once you're on the point sighting the target. One thing I would add is that, in my experience, clubs like that are incredible. More often than not run by volunteers who give up enormous amounts of time from their lives to help get newcomers into the sport. My local club has several volunteer coaches who are there very regularly training newbies and even more experienced shots. Incredible community to be a part of.

The Home Office approved clubs scheme require a minimum of 3months probationary membership, and to attend regularly. Depending on the type of club and how often they shoot, the club may adjust this. A club booking onto a military range once a month, 3months may not give them enough time to sus you out. Our club does 3months, and 10 visits minimum (Poole Dorset). But the club is (covid permitting) open 5 nights a week.

I used to mark targets for Huddersfield gun club when I was 14 and I got to shoot some really rare guns and I was amazed at how accurate the members were at 500 yards with a 303 with no scopes, I once got to use a very old revolver that you had to hand load with 8 ml ammunition and my friend ended up on his back due to the recoil, I learned a lot and I have respect for responsibility and safety around guns and I loved the whole experience

The long range shooting community in the UK seems so much more organized than here in the US, it’s mostly just driving out to a clear cut in the woods. Would love to have a long range shooting club that wasn’t a 5 year membership wait.

Great video as usual guys but you only state it's about Target Rifle shooting after eight and a half minutes in. I'm a rifle owner (and shooter!) but I use a range about once a year. Can we have another excellent clip on non-target rifle ownership/useage maybe? it's perfectly allowable and feasible to start out hunting FAC guns as long as one has the required permissions and the FEO agrees you have a legitimate reason for ownership. Keep up the good work as always all. Stay safe.

@That sorta irish guy I think it also puts people off, unless you're already in with the shooting crowd already, or go to a school ATC or the like. Like VRCA restrictions to ownership of RIFs, it still looks like a deliberate putting off by HMHO - kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z5bKq6yDrLuGjKs Though the general ignorance kzbin.info/www/bejne/qoWWlIOti5mois0 and anti-gun stance of the media and other groups will, most likely, see an end to sports/recreational shooting in the UK in the not too distant future. The same pattern has been seen in other areas of UK life. Keep safe.

in the u.s. (depending on what state you live in) you can literally walk into your local gunshop and buy a handgun (with a background check and a few forms) and be out the door in less than 20min. also you can own a fully automatic firearm, as a private citizen so long it was made and registered with the ATF before 1986, and you get a tax stamp from the ATF to own the specific gun you are buying. the real hindrance to that part is that there is a limited number of such guns hence, their prices command a substantial!!! premium.

Just makes me more appreciative that I don't live in Europe. Here in the US it's so much more casual, practical, and affordable for the average person to get into the shooting sports. I was a late bloomer not starting until I was in my mid thirties two and a half decades ago, but I quickly discovered I really enjoyed shooting matches when I shot my first match which was a rifle match to qualify for the purchasing of a US military surplus M1 rifle from the Federal Government's created to promote civilian marksmanship. Frome there I quickly expanded into silhouette rifle matches, then action pistol, then three gun, and inevitably clay shooting. The irony I quickly realized was that shooting different disciplines was that they all contributed to one another in improving your skills and marksmanship; they're not all in a vacuum on to themselves. And they're all a hell a lot of fun!

There is a video on this subject by the English Shooting channel. Although it's a few years old now so may be slightly out of date. But it should give you the idea. I think possibly the only thing that has changed is the way you choose ammo. You used to put how much you can buy and how much you can store as 2 separate things. Now it's just a storage limit. If you have any questions then sign up to Fullbore UK forum and ask there. People will be happy to help.

It certainly is overly complex compared to shotguns. Do the police tend to clamp down and stipulate the calibres they'll allow for your first Firearm Certificate? I'm just applying now. I have plenty of experience around firearms having not only been brought up around them but also having shot 5.56 in the cadets. I'm a long time shotgun owner, mainly clays but some vermin control. We have just bought a property with several acres of land to the rear of the house. As this has no neighbours, is far away from any road, and has 12 foot high embankments all around the perimeter it lends itself perfectly to becoming a great family only range for prone and benchrest target shooting up to 250 yards. I take it if I apply for .17, .22 and .243 on my first certificate the basis of home rabbit, fox, small deer control plus prone/benchrest target they'll automatically reject some of those calibres? I really would prefer to do things without the need to join a club. After all, it's my own land.

John, Rifles for pest control? Crow shooting what cartridge and what choke is best
@tgsoutdoors
@tgsoutdoors 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Ryan, Crow shooting always calls for a bit more choke, they tend to be a little further away on average owing to thier wary attitiude. Cartridges - i would go to a shot size 5 and probably a 32 gram to ensure clean kills. That said the crow shooting video we did had Dave and I shooting superfast pigeons from Hull and they were folding them up inside of 40 yards. What would you like to know about rifles for pest control? Jonny
@ryanflanagan7656

@@tgsoutdoors Yes, I've switched to eley 6s getting better kills but due to quarantine I've ran out. All I have is 71/2s but I'm winging alot of them which i dont feel is right! If I have tighter chokes this should give them better killing power? I've a cz 455. 17 hmr which is brilliant for most things. I bought it because I was told 22s are a gun of the past but I've a few mates swear by them. We've problems with hoodies, rooks and foxes killing lambs. Obviously an air rifle is used for feral pigeons and rats. What's your opinion on the. 22 vs. 17 hmr?

Interesting and informative (as usual) one additional point would have been that if you leave a club after acquiring firearms on the basis of that membership, you will lose the permission to have firearms unless you join another club.
@tgsoutdoors
@tgsoutdoors 4 жыл бұрын
Very good point. Having been a member once does not entitle you to lifetime gun ownership. In fact in the past the police and stated to need to carry club membership with your firearms to show you are an active member if stopped.
