Great advice my man. I just inherited two bikes from my dad who just passed in June 2020. He left me a 2003 Honda VTX 1800 and a 1985 Honda XR 250 which is the first bike I learned to ride in 1986. Want to take the XR apart and build a tracker but have never really worked on bikes before. Your insight will come in handy as I begin my journey. Wish me luck! I'll keep looking at your vids for more valuable information. Stay well.

I've used those sealable sandwich bags and big black marker ... will have to see if that comes back to bite me in 6-12 months ! Another tip, I've used a number of cardboard boxes, depending on the "area" of the bike ... one for the front end, one for the back end, one for electrics, one for engine etc etc etc

Good video. I'm on bike build number 9. Just a hobby for me. Dead right about the paint and i put my fastenings back on the removed component if i'm going to re-use them. I put the bikes on a low wooden bench and use my burly son as a budget bike lift and i scoot around the whole thing on a home made stool on wheels seat big enough for my arse and the relevant tools and components, no more back pain or numb knees and I can see what I'm at. There is something very calming about working on bikes, attitude is all important. Keep up the good work.

Hello Dave, sounds fantastic, i did look on your profile, to see if you've got some of the builds online, but couldnt see any. Would love to see some of your work, not tempted to start your own channel? You'd def have a sub from me. Take it easy fella, ride safe.

GT, Thanks for the reply just sub'd you. This is build No 9 in 40 years! so not exactly prolific, still, I'm only 60 yrs old so plenty of time left to get my stuff out there. Tho there's lots of guys doing good vids Delboy for one. My first build was a C15 the best was a squarial restoration. Currently creating an xv500 chobber. Always regretted not taking pictures. Keep it up. Ride safe

for parts/bolts/nuts etc I use take away containers and 3 x 5 index cards inside the container. Write on the card with a Sharpie, it's not going to fade. They come in a range of sizes, they're cheap, they stack together, and I've made a bunch of drawers that they fit neatly into.

I know this is very long already. But can I have tips on rebuilding my bike?
@jimcook34485 жыл бұрын
2 main points. The box idea is fine if it's a quick build, but who wants to have a cardboard box knocking around for (possibly) months? Personally I go for the bag option, but instead of writing on the outside, I put slips of paper inside the bag, with the part written on that. My second point is DO NOT watch or copy anything that Delboy does. Class one bodger that will cause you some dangerous issues and really doesn't know what he's talking about.
@GTsGarage5 жыл бұрын
The paper in the bag idea isn't bad, but can depend on the level of oil and grease that's on the part. To be honest I don't think there is a perfect solution so you just have to find out what works for you.

Hey I am really interested in restoring a 1980's Yamaha xj650 but it's not a complete bike and it's my first restoration. What do you think?
@GTsGarage7 жыл бұрын
If your going to restore and older bike, you need to make sure your able to purchase the replacement parts, easily and fairly cheaply. If parts are problematic to source, you going to end up paying through the nose for each part, or the project is going to stand still whilst you source them. Let me know how you get on, in fact get video'ing :)
