About 40 years ago. I did some training at the Marine Corps Mountain Warfare Training Center in Bridgeport California. Which is located in the Sierra Mountain Range. While learning winter survival and other extreme cold weather training. There was one tip that I was taught. That since then, by using that technique. I have found myself never getting cold in those extreme temperatures.
In this episode. We are going to look at this great tip. And how to apply it in frigid temperatures.

I will always take people's real life experience over what Google tells me, but I did read that your baselayer (closest to skin) should be close-fitting and the rest of the layers, like you say, loose-fitting to trap the air. Either way, all your videos are invaluable to me. Have a good christmas and new year🎄

Base layer should be next to your skin. Wool is best. The jacket is to be loose fitting. I should of pointed that out. Thank you Glyn doh so much for watching. I really appreciate it. Merry Christmas!

Your scouts are very fortunate. Some groups don't have knowledgeable adults, or ones willing to do something occasionally uncomfortable or not tame enough, so the kids have tamer experience.

Nice scenery. Where I live in the UK is cold and wet and gets dark around 5pm. I much prefer Spring or Summer, or even Autumn with all the beautiful colours. I watch some videos online, of people camping in the rain and wind and for the life of me, I don't understand what joy they can find in it. Cold and dry, is much better than cold and wet. I agree with you on the quality of clothing having deteriorated over the years. We live in a disposable society it seems, where fashion trends take precedence over quality. Take care of yourself and God bless.
@AdventureswiththeMarine
@AdventureswiththeMarine Жыл бұрын
Next month it will start getting dark around 4:30. Which makes less time to trek. You have to be at camp to have enough light to setup, find and process fire wood. ( and you will need a lot of wood because the nights are long ) But you are so right with it being wet. The colder the temperatures. The dryer. If you stay warm and comfortable. Winter is a beautiful time to be out in the great outdoors. But Fall is by far my favorite time of the year. Thank you Steven so much for watching. I always appreciate it.

Being 6'2" and mostly skinny, I always used to buy medium in jackets - and the sleeves would end up being too short, and in general everything was too tight. I'd get cold in the winter, and thought it was just my genetics. Took me forever to learn that I need Large, Large Tall, XL - and now I look forward to getting outside in the winter.

Great advice! Bigger boots are key...I love my muckluks - 1 1/2 sizes bigger and a size wider than I normally wear. Any advice on cold or winter camping is greatly appreciated, I have a question about underquilts, recently I have been trying to get one and keep hitting walls. Mostly just monetary but some of the cheaper UQs are confusing, they are full length but hug the shape of the hammock wouldn't this be counterintuitive to hammocks as you sleep at an angle? I'm from Scotland so have some difficulty finding anything affordable other than DD Hammocks even though they are solid and dependable, yet I don't want to be trapped using only them.
@AdventureswiththeMarine
@AdventureswiththeMarine Жыл бұрын
I like to use a 3/4 length under quilt when temperatures are above -17 c. Below that. But there is a trick to using them. They have to be adjusted every time you get in and out of the hammock. They are less wight and less bulk. And less expensive. The ones that hug the body are not counterintuitive. But the opposite. Company like Hammock Gear are making them with duck down. Which brings the cost down too. I hope this helps. Thank you Strepsiades14945 for watching. I always appreciate it.
