I have a seagrass hat that has gotten floppy and flimsy, so steaming is not necessary to "soften" it. It couldn't be softer. How can I stiffen it back up?

Fab! Can you reshape a hat into a new shape in this way? I had to unpick a hat and sew back together again to fit my extra-large head (60cm!!). Can I steam and sit it on a ball to round the top a little?

you may need to add a bit of wood glue and water into a spray bottle if it doesn't work but steaming to keep in in the shape you want but the round top idea using a ball sounds like a good idea to me!

Hi, Many hat makers use steam to shape their straw hats. You can use this technique to shape your hat.

Hi Yes you can lay a thin cloth on the brim and then iron it.. if it's particularly tough you can steam it first with steam from a tea kettle to soften it.

Hi Yvonne, Usually when a wire breaks in the brim of the hat, they're pretty difficult to mend. You may have to purchase a new hat.
