Thank you so much for posting how to and more importantly WHY it works from a body mechanics point of view. I am riding again after a 40 year "hiatus" and I need these videos! I worked for PT's and yoga instructors for years so am delighted to incorporate what I know while I'm on a horse! Your explanations are very clear and also encouraging. Brilliant teaching!

I experimented with my leg position last tuesday. I noticed that I really follow the motion of the horse, but maybe too much. My thighs were almost rolling with the movement and didn’t provide much support. I tried softly keeping contact with the saddle (not pinching) and it made everything feel more quiet and stable. My lower leg was able to reach further back and my feet were more parallel with the horse (instead of my duck feet position.) Awesome new video. My horse slows down off of my seat very well, but that’s because I ride on a loose rein alot (long, low, hind end engagement stuff)

Very helpful. It is all wonderful info. Preventively, good horsemanship, understanding so many components of horse and human, and human on the horse. I ride school horse. Thoroughbred. He's wonderful. Your videos are helping me in a more cohesive way, it is so much one cannot see while riding. We have no mirrors in our state of the art indoor arena. I am persevering, have had 2+ years. out of the seat. I love riding, this is helping me with visuals, your words and my interest in doing it right for the horse and me. Thank you. I will keep watching you.

Hello I love you videos, so crystal clear, I love your voice and how you get the msgs across. When you speak the horses are so relaxed, and me too 😊 Did you make a video about trot to walk transition? I took up riding after a 30yr old break, and I really struggle with this transition. The instructor gives us only the 4th aid from the above video, and it doesn't feel right, neither for me nor the horse. Thank you 🙏❤️⭐

I just commented on another on of you videos asking how to do this and I hope this works for me I’m trying to train my horses to be better. I love your videos so far I just hope when I try all of this that it works the same in a barrel saddle with a 1 inch pad
@JSHorsemanship
@JSHorsemanship 4 жыл бұрын
Hi😊 I’m so glad you are enjoying the videos. In my experience riding in a western saddle and thicker pad doesn’t make a difference in teaching your horse to stop off your seat. Your timing and consistency does. This is something that takes time to develop. I wish you the success 💕🐴

Just came from your other video on beginner basics including stopping, to expand on that....and tbh I still don’t get it. “quite riding” I feel like I want someone to say specifically are you tucking your pelvis under like a little ab crunch...? Anatomy and body movment- wise (albeit small).. what is it that you do ?

Hey!! Thank you for that I will definitely give it a try. There is one question that I have and that is rewarding your horse. I see you doing it, talking about rewarding and you do it as well. I do it as a matter of course patting him and verbal things like good boy! Is that all it is? Is that all it takes for them to know they are doing well and that you are happy with them? Or is there other things I can do?
@JSHorsemanship
@JSHorsemanship 4 жыл бұрын
Hi 😊 Petting your horse is a great form of reward. You can also give them a scratch in an area that they enjoy, give them a treat or change the subject of whatever you’re working on to give them a break🐴
@JuliaN-fi9zw
@JuliaN-fi9zw 4 жыл бұрын
The best form of reward is giving them release :) let’s say they collect for you nicely, take your leg off a little bit and give them a tiny bit of rein. It basically tells them “thank you for doing what you did, here is a quick break”

It takes FOREVER to learn how to stop with your seat. Every horse knows a different way to stop with their seat. My old horse was to tuck my butt completely under me and basically squeeze my cheeks (western). I would just keep working with your horse until they figure out what your seat means. When me and my old horse were figuring each other out we would do 1) seat 2) reins. If he would walk through my stop we would back up and if he did it repeatedly then he would get a quick tug on the bit.

Sometimes I need things explained to me a couple different ways to really FEEL what my instructor means. Another way to say it is to 'stop following' with your seat. I gently tighten my whole ab area, which stops my seat from moving along with the horse as much. Hope that helps!
