There is no right way. Decide why you will make certain choices, and enjoy the outcomes. You just need to decide if you are self inserting, and following your own logic, or actually roleplaying. Then you choose what your character would decide. I find that more fun.

Thanks for saying all this. Since the game awards, some of the groups and forums and influencers are getting downright toxic about viewing and playing THEIR way.. It's awesome to hear a voice of reason in amongst all the judgemental rhetoric. It's a really special game and it deserves to be enjoyed the way the PLAYER enjoys it. One of the most fun interesting ways to play games like this is to "roll the dice". Roll it for appearance. Roll it for race. Roll it for class. Attributes. Skills. Level ups. Not only does it alleviate you from trying to play "perfect", it adds unique challenge, a unique character, rolplaying that you wouldn't normally consider. If you're a bit burned out, try it, it's like it's own roguelike version of the game.
@threewiseman1Ай бұрын
I did this and wound up with a Drow Rogue (didn't do it with appearance, but the basic race and class). Turned out awesome. Drow was not a race I would have otherwise gravitated towards, but I stuck with it and was overjoyed when I got the chance to tell a child that the rumour that drow enslave children was ridiculous, "We murder way more children than we enslave" 😂

Everyone plays Warlocks as female tieflings. I made a highelf as an Archfey warlock and had a ton of fun with her. I loved those moments when the narrator went like „You hear a faint giggle…“. I believe the best situation was with Dribbles and my patron basically told me,,that clown is evil …. All in all my characters decisions were chaotic neutral, with a tendency towards good at best. Funny side effect, i saw Astarion approve a lot of her chaotic or just fun decisions. I was like „Wtf Astarion? You weird little ball of chaos?“. I never saw him liking any of my characters as much as this one. So even though I’m not exactly an Astarion romancer, i went with it for once. I let the romance just roll ❤ :D

I had started about 10 play throughs and ended them prematurely seeing all the cool things other characters got access too and ended up switching to that certain class or build, and starting the cycle all over again. Coincidentally, I also do this a lot in 5e DND and it makes my friends really upset about how I wish to change characters mid campaign. Thank you so much for making this video and allowing me to step back a second and realize that fun should be the most important part of a GAME rather than mid-maxing and analyzing the best routes or angles. If you miss the old 70's D&D rules, Pathfinder: Kingmaker and Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous are two video games, similar in style... older graphics, but still similar in style to Baldur's Gate 3... based on the D&D 1e rules instead of the updated 5e rules. They're Real Time with Pause combat, but there's an option to set it to turn based in the options and it works well. I'm not a video gamer either, just missed D&D and started with Pathfinder: Kingmaker. Divinity: Original Sin and Divinity: Original Sin 2 are also excellent games in this vein.

It also helps a ton to not view any media until you have finished the game . Unless you are stuck on a quest than sure look up how to do it, but googling your first build to make your character the best, or which feats are the best is the wrong way to play the first time around IMO, my first playthough I played a simple character (Fighter) as I was really new to D&D, and CRPG's. This video is great. The best part of playing a D&D style game is the role playing. I go way back to 2nd ed. pen & paper AD&D: Fiend Folio, Monster Manuals 1 & 2, etc. I can't yet speak to the harder modes, I've only played on balanced so far, but you really can't go wrong with any build; unless you minimize the prime stat. I'm currently running both (2 concurrent play thrus) a Gith Monk and a Drow rogue assassin. I love Drow and rogues. I have re-spec'd Shadowheart and Gale at Withers. You can tailor a lot of the BG3 experience to make it more enjoyable to play. This video plainly lays out how truly easy it is to role play whatever you like and change it if you find you don't like it. Happy BG3 gaming everyone.

So some combination of character fatigue and the fact that i've never done a true first run but still know all the spoilers is stoping me from landing on a character.

I wished this was true. I’m playing, or tried to play without min/max and the game is incredibly difficult. If you don’t use the right tools with the right characters you’ll suffer disadvantages you don’t even get. I love your approach and the breakdown and thinking is great. While listening to you I really wanted to dig back into it, and all I could think about was how frustrating it was to play and keep getting hammered by… everything.

Cheats and mods? If you are like me and just want to explore the game without the stress. My favourite mod allows you to bring all 6 companions with you at once which is a little claustrophobic but definitely makes things easier.

I always enjoy hearing your take on BG3. Good pep talk for players who don’t want to obsess over every feat, level, and item slot. If I am enjoying playing the character, it’s a good character.

What a perfectly timed video… I’ve played through three campaigns as a Sowrd Bard w/ hand crossbows, pure Paladin and a Dark Urge Monk. I’ve started several campaigns after but have fizzled. I did take a looong break after my last campaign. I just can’t decide on what to try… I really want to try a moon Druid but seem to always have a hard time getting it started… feels weak :(. 😢 that all being said, these are good problems to have.
@doidoi854411 ай бұрын
I beat my first playthrough as a Moon Druid. Tbh, I never felt weak even when starting out. I'd recommend either the Rothe or the Spider until you get the Owlbear and use that until you unlock the Myrmidion near the end of the game. Take many AOE spells. My Moon Druid was a monster

@@doidoi8544thank you this is helpful. I believe I’m playing it wrong and just going straight shapeshifters not utilizing other Druid strengths
@besgarknightshade324111 ай бұрын
@@ciscokid78 Cast Barkskin on yourself before shapeshifting, it helps most of the early wildshapes you have. Spider with web is so useful to control the enemy, and it is flammable. Bear with 30 hit points... before you get to your druid hit points, means you likely have more hit points than anyone else in the party... with 2 wildshapes per short rest. Get to 5th level and your bear has 2 attacks per round

You can't imagine how this video was salutary to me. As I start my 2nd campaign, I keep thinking about which build I should use, and which group composition would be optimal, which choice I should make.... the whole thing ruining the experience and keeping me from appreciating a game I loved at first sight. It began feeling like a burden and you just alleviated it. Many thanks ! Greetings from a French viewer

Started playing today, and I *SPOILER* got myself arrested in the Goblin Town. What happened next blew me away. I could've easily load a previous save and avoid being imprisoned, but I went 'screw it, if they kill me ill reload'. But no. It happened something way more interesting

This video was needed before all of these build videos came out. As someone who came into this game with no knowledge of D&D I felt like I had to watch these build videos just to understand how to build a character. Most games have obvious weak classes and there was no way I would have thought this game would be different My first playthrough I quit once I got to Rivington because I just didn’t like the choices I made And that was due to me just not understanding how the game works. While I agree with this video 100% I needed all of those build guides just so I can know how to get the best out of my build. I’m hindsight tho I think watching all of these builds just confused me more. If I had to tell someone else who is just getting into this game I would tell them to not listen to not one other person about this game and just go in blind. Because while I was playing I had people tell me I was moving too fast or I missed stuff. The people that wanted me to 100% the game on one run were not helpful. This game was designed to be played multiple times

I appreciate your video. Honestly my major kryptonite is I want to play classes that don't specialize in charisma, but can never make it through because I want to pass every persuasion check. This video helped with that I think and im just gonna go for my druid/monk build I've been wanting to play

My issue if immersion. I gotta help all the right characters, make sure the right characters survive, make sure the right dialogue is chosen and not miss anything interesting. I’m not too worried about being the strongest

When I first hopped on BG3 my friends were adamant on doing certain builds, doing these specs etc because they were used to playing DnD so I understand why they would want me to basically have an advantage on my first playthrough. Against their will I build a Monk ( my typical play style) and after the first 6 levels I think they were enjoying the fact that I was so new and wasn't worried about getting the best stuff/specs. I even unlocked areas / achievements for them that was new! Now that I have some skin in the game its coming natural and I am even leading the battles and our fights go WAY smoother with way less quick loads :)

I have been binge watching your videos ever since I decided to purchase the game. This video helped me so much. Brand new to the genre and I caught myself trying to make the "best" character from the start. I found my love for the paladin class and have 10 hours on a great play through. But this video inspired my dark urge play through with a halfling witch RP. THANK YOU!!

I think your last point is super important, it really helps to just roll along with the punches and accept your fate. Someone I know was talking about how tedious BG3 is, but then I learned that they save-scum every single encounter and re-roll until it favors them, or try every option in a dialog tree until they get the desired outcome, etc. Of course that's tedious! I think part of the fun is letting the game take you on a ride, and it really enhances replayability because next time you play the game you'll have different outcomes.

“Analysis paralysis “ is spot on! Ive had the game three days and, though Im a veteran rpg player, I find myself gazing at my team in camp and wondering what the heck we should be doing next, who should I take from the eight I have access to currently (not including hirelingd)! I know I have already made mistakes like attacking Auntie whatsit and not getting the sword from the demon in the ship etc. I just blunder about and have faith in the devs that my game will work out nonetheless! That said, your videos are great for giving a little boost of confidence! Thank you. Edit: Fyi, I chose a female, half elf, Ranger, hunter as my class .

Really awesome! Something else to note for new players is that it is EXTREMELY easy to change your class once you start the game. I've changed my class around so many times as I've played and have had a blast with it! Most of the time I'm a Bard / Fighter, but randomly I'll want to become a druid or a warlock for a bit so I'll do that. It's really easy to switch around :)
