Lot of guy don’t know the trick of silicone. They apply and slam down tight. NO! You have to explain/tell them to wait. Let the silicone have a minute to start to gel before making the seal surface. Then don’t tighten the daylights out of the pan. I really like your secret of doing a final wipe for oil before closing the pan. GOLDEN. THKS

I think part of the problem is the bolts should come with spring washers designed to close at a certain torque and then stay closed with the tension of the spring to keep the gasket tight. Since they don't I'm getting ready to redo my leaky pan with better bolts and washers (if I can find some that fit).
@saneauto19 күн бұрын
I believe your Spring & bolt combo would work if it were good quality springs. The later rubber gaskets have small metal wahers imbedded in them to prevent crushing & splitting from over torque.

Best video on this subject ive found so far. Ive had my truck in the shop 6 times already with a slow transmission leak. Everyone keeps telling me its the pan. Even tho they changed it 3 times. I think its the dipstick bc its all pitted at the bottom. Its driving me absolutely nuts bc They keep telling me its fixed... i get it home and it leaks yet again. Keeps leaving soft ball sized spots on the ground. Wouldnt be a big dealxto me at all if I didnt do landscaping and constantly in other peoples driveways at a lot of nice houses and I know they dont want me leaking in their driveways. I really wish I had a father who actually showed me how to work on and fix my own vehicle. Drives me nuts that I have to depend on others for that. I can do the simple things but not transmissions. Im rdy to just put full coverage on the god damn thing and watch it go missing. Its a real shame too bc its a really nice little work truck with only 79k miles on it. 2003 chevy S10 with the 8ft box.

I didnt get to learn from Dad either. There was a decade of the Vietnam war then a few decades of long haul trucking & divorce. Mom was bad with money so I knocked on doors looking for work from old guys & I read repair manuals. Lots of Haynes & Chilton. Try not to get burned by the exhaust under there.

so I didn't tighten down my bolts either but my GD pan is still leaking. I have new pan, new gasket on a 2007 Nissan Sentra 2.0S and I am now looking at my 3rd fluid dump to try and get this MFer to stop leaking. I put the bolts down in the pattern shown in the manual and when the bolts made contact with the surface, I put a small amount of pressure to tighten them down and I would say the bolts turned maybe a 1/4 turn after meeting up with the surface and this dam thing is still leaking from the gasket. I'm at my wits end with this junk. I was told not to use transmission RTV/silicone however I have a tube. Again, brand new pan and gasket. I also cleaned the hell out of the transmission mating surface and got it smooth, no gouges or scratches. Any advise? Remove again and use the RTV? Prior to all this, the first leak, I attempted to just squeeze RTV into a bolt hole where the leak appeared to be coming from but after that didn't work and I got a new pan and gasket, I am thinking the torque pattern has to be wrong. I also think the whole design is messed up too. anyway, venting more or less as this is costing me $$ every time I work on it.

I blew a Head Gasket once, turns out the mechanic who offered to fix it for me used to be a Chief Mechanic for a F1 Race Care Team, and he redid the entire engine, I got a new redone engine for the same price as the gasket just because he liked working on engines. Would have cost me a fortune otherwise.

Hi, I just saw your video about hitting the holes with a round hammer, which I have not done. I have a fmx on my 69 cougar and I just changed the transmission gasket but in about three weeks is leaking again, my problem is that I don't drive too much this car and sometimes goes about two weeks or more that is just parked. My question: should I buy a deeper trans pan to avoid the fluid that goes down to the pan doesn't leak while parked?

Hie guys can you please assist me with my car is 2000 model BMW E46 318i Automatic . l think l went pass through a big stone in the road and it hit my gearbox pan folding it upwards but not breaking it and l managed to get home and parked the car .Then the next day l started the car and as l try to put the car in drive it is stopping at the Reverse(R) slot even if you try to force it to reach the neutral (N) and the Drive(D) slot it is bouncing back to the Reverse slot infact its not getting in Neutral nor Drive(D) .I suspected the sound l heard underneath the car yesterday and when l checked underneath l could see the gearbox pan was damaged it has folded a bit upwards but its not linking any transmission oil .My question is can this damage of folding the pan upwards cause the car not to engage in N and D and how can l fix the pan to be straight need you help guys

Thanks for sharing. I'm working on 1 of those pesky Chrysler/Dodge Stratus pans now, 1997 model. Didn't use enough rtv, leaked/drained whole pan in no time. Inspected, just 2-3 of the screws were wet, so took out those 3 & 1 more, put Plenty of rtv on the bolt heads And threads, put some rtv up in each hole, back in, retorqued, Still leaks, but not quite as bad. So guess I'll try try again. Mercy. Think I might try some Pematex #1 sealer, you use/recommend it? Take care, - Leeroy

I use this permatex black RTV -- amzn.to/3oGz0ap & when I cant get it the JB weld brand of Black RTV is just as good. The trick is to get the surface dry before applying the RTV. Not easy to do on those chryslers.

@@saneauto Thanks man. I like the sound of Max oil resistance. Yeah I hear ya', next time I think I'll use some carb/brake cleaner or rubbing alcohol on all the surfaces before the rtv. probably your tran pan is warped which in case gnew gasket will still leak install new pan and gasket tighted like doing a head repair to 3 to4 ft lbs each bolt if that doesent work it means your transmission is possessed hbjerry

@@jerryjames2163 possessed??? I changed the pan also.

@@j.j.5844 you changed the pan with a new unwrarped one i hope then you sequenced tightened the bolts finger lite tight remember sequence tight then you got out your torque gauge socket wrench and sequence tightened the bolts to 3 to 4 ft lbs. (check manafactureers recomendations for ft lb) could be different. then i should be ok.

I'm in the same boat three times now and it's still leaking now I'm almost positive that I've over torqued the bolts and I didn't do it directionally either. I'm going to try that and if that doesn't work I don't know WTF? I'm even using a Lube Locker gasket which are supposed to be pretty solid.
