Tunnel vision is one of the biggest causes of chess mistakes. It happens when people over-focus on one particular aspect of the game and miss an important detail in the position. This video shows several instructive examples of tunnel vision while also giving advice on how we can tackle it.
Ultimately, it is about flexibility and re-orientating yourself to the position when the opponent makes a move. It is about generating several candidate moves and not limiting ourselves to a single option. It is about actively searching for the drawbacks behind the opponent's last move, while also not missing the threats by only following our own plan.
