Found you a couple of days ago. Subscribed after just a couple of videos and have been blazing through your content ever since. I love how your approach is a combination of old fashioned common sense and not so common intuition, which, in my opinion, is the most effective way to handle most of what life throws at us. Also love the clean cut look you're sporting recently; it suits you.

Thanks for another helpful and insightful video. I can’t imagine Eileen being aggressive as she’s always so sweet and calm when we see her, but the larger the breed the greater the damage so leadership is key.👏

you title this video “how to stop your dog being aggressive” but you don’t show any physical solution to the problem. i appreciate the psychological basis of your teachings and i love your input on the matter of how a dog thinks. but i do not think any of these tips are physically useful. we as subscribers don’t have any “homework” we could take home and physically apply to our dogs with the information given in this video. “be a confident assertive leader”. what does that look like? what are steps or exercises we should do to show that? When is the timing of the correction with aggressive dogs? How do we perform the correction? I appreciate you making this video but titling it “how” is misleading

Yes, he does- Crate training, use a muzzle, loose lead walking training, and be a calm assertive leader at all times so that your dog won't make bad decisions on their own or will accept correction when a wrong decision is made. He clearly states that there is no magic wand to correct aggression, so if you are expecting one, your expectation is unrealistic and impractical. In short, dog training is a process and journey.

Excellent explanation! No Matter what your opinions, or your defined system of training, what Will is saying is spot on true! If you don't give your dog the leadership it's screaming for, it will do what it needs to, to achieve it themselves or give themselves the feeling of self preservation caused by fear, insecurities and lack of confidence in keeping other dogs away!

Really need these types of videos, Will. My dog will threaten to bite (and sometimes does) when she's touched while in a relaxed state/lying down. I would love any video about how to help a dog not react so aggressively in these situations. I have a baby on the way and am worried about the future of my dog and family.

your dog will prob love and protect the baby but that`s where having a crate will be good, the dog can have a wee den to hide out, and when you are busy and can`t fully supervise the situation, baby will be safe.

I disagree with these comments, I wouldn't keep any dog that shows aggressive tendencies around a child. Our family dog just attacked my 9 Yr old a week ago, he's been in hospital and had surgery to stitch up his head, could have been worse if I was not there to pull the dog off. Not worth the risk in my opinion..

@@emjane74 Most of us view our canine companions as family members and are willing to do absolutely ANYTHING to rehabilitate that family member. I'm sorry your situation ended so poorly BUT...in most cases there will be multiple red flags that could be addressed before an attack. Resource guarding is the #1 earliest sign of aggression and it is so often overlooked by uneducated dog owners. If you can't place your dogs favorite meal, treat or toy on the ground and walk out of reach without your dog taking it....yoy have work to do!!! If you and your children can't grab your dogs food bowl and take it away during feeding YOU HAVE WORK TO DO!!! Excluding extreme situations, there are no bad dogs just bad dog owners. They are uneducated and do not put in the work!

@@DrippingWithSin Dave, The dog did not resource guard food or anything else, She growled at my 9yr old only and was assessed by a dog behaviourist when we first took her in.. I'm glad u are willing to do ANYTHING to rehabilitate a dog after it attacks your child, no thank u but my son comes first and I would never put him in harms way again. The way u say there are no bad dogs only bad owners makes me think u have met every dog and their owners and done case studies, I guess there are no bad people that commit crimes either, must be their parents fault? It's always people that haven't witnessed a dog attack on their child that say there are always red flags etc, I would have thought the same before, not now. Like I said in my original replyif u have an AGGRESSIVE dog remove it if u have kids, simple!

Will, can you PLEASE do a video on erratic AROUSAL BITING in large adolescent dogs? I can't find any decent videos online about dealing with this but have found lots of posts from owners having the same problem I'm having. I don't think my 1 year old dog is inherently aggressive, but she struggles with over-stimulation and over-excitement when off lead on walks and at home, which ends up in brief moments of madness when a switch goes off and suddenly she's too overstimulated so chooses to jump up and bite crazily at my arms/clothing. Sometimes it is hard to spot when she is about to go over threshold and my clothes are getting ripped (plus it can be quite scary). She's never broken skin, despite being 48kg. So it's somewhat controlled bite/mouthing outbursts that appear to come out of nowhere and end as quickly as they start, then afterwards she is back to being her usual calm friendly self, but in that aroused state her eyes are wide and dilated and she looks like a totally different dog. She doesn't growl or snarl in these moments, just jumps and bites. Please help!

I too have the very same issue with a 6 month old adn in the last half hour had the worst episode ever where nothing worked. We have a behaviourist coming on Thursday to address this, so hopefully we find a solution. I am however aware that I will be having some training in leadership. I have everything crossed. It is most upsetting, as she is the most gentlest girl any other time

@@mary-rosemcilhone5177 well to update on this, not long after I wrote my original comment I hired a behaviourist for my girl but annoyingly she didn't display an arousal episode in front of him (typical! it was a bit of a waste of money really as he only told me things I already knew and was already doing to try to help), HOWEVER you'll be pleased to know we're no longer seeing those manic episodes! I continued to remain calm and authoritative and rewarded any positive behaviour she displayed, and over time she just grew out of it. I think her last time doing it was probably around 4-6 months after I made my comment. She is now the sweetest, most chill dog and it is hard to imagine her ever doing even a portion of the craziness she was up to before. Also to note, she is totally non-reactive and extremely friendly with both humans and other dogs (of any size).... she's a dream to have now. So keep at it! You guys will get there!

I try so hard to get her to loose lead walk but it’s a struggle as Incan do it whilst I’m treating but as soon as she gets the treat she switches off totally ignoring me. It can be very stressful I love her to pieces but I don’t feel when we are out she bonds with me. Although indoors she is loving towards me.
@kurtfox4944

I think the problem is that a leader should lead, not bribe. If you have to bribe to get her to follow, you are not really "leading" but "motivating" her with a treat. Your dog is not looking to your as a Consistent Assertive *Leader*...only a treat source. If there is anything I have learned watching dog training videos, it is this: the problem is not with the dog (in 99.99% of the cases) but the owner. Just curious, what bred do you have?

Hi! I have a question. I have one year old épagneul breton. She has been always playful towards dog, well little provocative too. I should have probably stopped this right at the begging but I didn't realise and hoped it would go away. Well she always kind of push other dogs who would bark or growl at her. She run around and tried to play with them. Today one dog who, in the past regularly growled at her, went to her from the back she didn't know about the dog minding her on business. Her reaction was that she turned around and probably little bit bit the dog (I didn't see it properly). I immediately recalled her and she came to me. My question is what should I do in situations like this? Usually she doesn't attack dogs I think she felt threatened. However she should not react like this, probably. Thank you for your advices.

Barks like crazy when he’s not getting the attention he wants or when I leave him even if I just leave the room and he bites. The bites aren’t always hard but I’m noticing he’s almost snapping at me sometimes. Is this normal?

I have been recently out walking to a location to take some photos, and was pinned down with 3 dogs. 2 stayed at distance but a collie dog was feet away from me growling showing teeth. Took owner a good 5 minutes to get to me. I did try my clam voice talking to it.

How would you deal with resource guarding between dogs when me and my wife are eating one of the dogs. He is a more bully pitbull and we have an American pitbull, so he’s a little bit bigger in height, but the smaller one, whenever the bigger one comes around where we are eating. He growls and has a snaped at the other dog every now and then he doesn’t do it towards people. But both of them try to show for dominance. Of each other they have both been with us since 8 weeks old and they are 7 years and 5 years old it is the younger of the 2 that is doing this and it started when we had our son 3 years ago it’s not every time but when it happens I try to stop it but when I move or acknowledge that he’s doing somethings, he shouldn’t he stops, touch his tail and lays down

None or this stuff works. You get a dog you can physically handle. If you are big and strong you can have a bigger stronger dog. If you are a weaker smaller man you should have a smaller dog. The reason being is aggressive dogs need to be physically dominated. When they are a puppy play fight with them so they learn to respect your power at a early age and they will often learn to respect you from life just from that. Sometimes you have a adolescent that wants to challenge your position and thats when you need to wrestle your dog down on the dog and make sure it fears your power. That is nessary for the bigger larger breeds hence why these dogs require very good handlers. Play fighting your dog early on will often prevent this from happening. Dogs do not have affection like we do especially intact male dogs. The only thing they have on their mind is food, hierarchy and mateing.
