Awesome video. Nice and quick! Only thing I might do is make sure the absorbers are enough for the kilogram weight. That looks like about 8 kilos. So you need to specify exactly how much absorber you need. Also. Don’t just leave it for 15 years. You want to use and rotate your store. This will help save money and will keep your storage as fresh as it can possibly be. When you go to use that bucket of rice, buy the replacement before you crack into it. Take the stored bag and put into pop bottle with o2 absorbers. You don’t need as much here. Then get to work processing the new bag to go on the shelf. Also one last thing. The seasonings have more moisture than you think. Never pack them together unless you are using it within five ir so years. I would put them in the bucket in a separate vacuum sealed bag. Finally. To get as much air out as possible you can easily retro fit a tube onto a vacuum hose and simply suck out what you can. This ensures the o2 packs don’t have to work so hard.

What’s with throwing a sealed bottle of seasoning in the bucket. Oxygen absorbers can’t take the air out and extend the life unless it can reach the seasonings to pull the air out. 🙄 If you want the seasoning to be air tight, put it in a small Mylar bag and use a smaller oxygen absorber, or vacuum seal the smaller jars. Otherwise, your seasoning lasts no longer than the expiration date on the bottle. Ground seasonings have a shelf life of 1 to 3 years depending on what it is. Mixed seasonings don’t last as long depending on the most perishable and delicate herbs. The rice is good for 30 years. The seasonings aren’t. Salt is forever. Return email notifications are not available at this time

Excellent point SJ S. I have a little work around for that. I run a seasoning manufacturing company. I had small oxygen absorbers put into the bottles before the induction seal was put on in the capping process. Normally we don't do that but the seasoning would clump over time if I didn't do that. Also, we have our spices treated for bacteria reduction. Doesn't kill them all but helps quite a bit. And if it did clump that wouldn't stop me from adding it to the water that the rice is cooked in. I'm thinking it would still work somewhat. If none of the seasoning is good when the time comes, it's just plain rice for us, unfortunately. Great comment, thank you! -Tom

Won't the seasonings expire?
@evolutionaryTom4 жыл бұрын
Great question, TL. I think I'm qualified to answer it because I run a seasoning manufacturing company. The seasonings won't actually "expire". Seasonings lose their oils over time and that's why sometimes if you use an old seasoning in your kitchen, you have to use more of it to get the same flavor as before. They lose their essential oils and therefore their "punch". Spices are inherently dirty with bacteria as well. We have them treated for bacteria reduction before we blend them, in order to increase the shelf life. I'm not sure what will happen in the sealed bucket with oxygen depleters in there, to be honest. But it's worth a shot. I know it's as treated as they can be. The rest is up to nature. -Tom

Only downfall with the video is the truly asinine comment of throwing away food. Learn to cook with your preps and cycle through them. For long grain rice, 2 cups rice, 3 cups water. Melt some butter in the pot first. After the butter melts, add the rice and water. Place on high until boil starts. Mylar bags are made of aluminum, not what I would use for food storage.

Why not just buy a really good bag of rice in the first place that is already sealed properly and just eat it. That way you aren't wasting space by keeping rice that you aren't eating.

Couldn't understand why do you want to store it for 10 years. Is it fir your grand children.

Hey, I'm not that old!! :-)

I hope you don’t have to throw away the rice. It it lasts 15yrs why not consume redo in 10yrs.
@evolutionaryTom2 жыл бұрын
I agree, Tintu. I thought about that, why wait until I'm near the end of life of the rice and just refresh it. It would be a good test.

So for 15 years you're not going to plant ANYTHING? HUH?

I think you should those buckets in an old fashioned metal garbage can so that rodents can't get into it. They can bite through some plastic!!!

you should have sterilized the seasoning shakers, because they are full of bacteria and fungi from your hand, and by everyone who touched them before you purchase them.

I don’t understand why you would be throwing away the rice after 15 years of storage , what you don’t think it will be any good then why do what you did you just waisted your time and mine for watching this.

Fantastic, but that is garbage rice. You keep buying that stuff. I'll take the good stuff.

If that is all you have it will taste pretty good once the food shortage hits..
@CarrWatt14 жыл бұрын
@@evolutionaryTom There are different types, I love Zatarins Parboiled Rice, Bismati & Jasmine are also very good, all are more expensive then what you have there. You might try picking up small bags of each to try, food shortages are fast approaching, I say store whatever you can get.

@@CarrWatt1 Great suggestion, SWWA. I didn't know any of that. I appreciate you adding to the knowledge base. I'm sure others will find that useful as well. -Thank you, Tom

I say store a diverse assortment of what you like that's within your budget. I have a few storage containers with several different kinds of rice, beans, lentils, pasta, and various canned meats and vegetables. Also, don't forget to store salt. It's not just for flavor...no salt = no survival!
