Thank you for the information! How quickly do I have to reseal them? I'm planning on using some this weekend but it takes time to vacuum seal and jar each product. Should I keep opening and resealing? Or can I keep the bag open and just move quick and hope for the best?

I like the mylar bag idea though I think I would vacuum seal it shut. I didn't think of that , however, until I saw your video. Thank you.

Great info! Thank you! How do you store/where should the oxygen absorbers be placed before restoring then and prior to putting them into the storage vessel into which items are being stored for the long-term please?
@pleasantgrovefarmnc2 жыл бұрын
Sealed packages or sealed jars with oxygen absorbers can be stored at room temperature in a cabinet.

Thank you very much your video was very educational. How many oxygen absorbers do you use per bag that is what I don't know is how to calculate them do you have a video on that?
@pleasantgrovefarmnc2 жыл бұрын
We do have a chart on our website that gives the size oxygen absorbers you should use based on the size of your bags. Note that if you only have 100cc size oxygen absorbers and you need a 300cc absorber, you can use (3) 100cc absorbers as a substitute for a 300cc.

Can you store flour this way as well in Mylar bags? Ty. Learning here!

Yes, flour stores well in mylar bags with oxygen absorbers!

I don’t have a vacuum sealer, or Mylar bags. So what should I use? My only option seams to be a mason jar.
@pleasantgrovefarmnc2 жыл бұрын
Oxygen absorbers must be stored in a closed environment that will not allow air/oxygen to enter. This can be obtained in a mason jar, but if you don't have a vacuum sealer be sure to use the smallest jar possible since the absorbers will activate to remove any oxygen from the jar.

Can you reuse the same lid each time you reseal/vacuum seal the jar, or do you have to get a new one each time?
@pleasantgrovefarmnc2 жыл бұрын
You can reuse the lid

Hi I put mine in a Mason Har and put the lid on it but I don't have my food savor yet. Now the inside on the jar looks wet, does that mean they aren't good anymore?
@pleasantgrovefarmnc2 жыл бұрын
The moisture is the result of all the oxygen absorbers beginning to activate in a small space. As soon as the oxygen is removed from the jar, the absorbers will stop reacting. The moisture will disappear and the oxygen absorbers will still be good to use.

You mention the "oxy eye"... where can I get those? Nobody seems to sell them.
@pleasantgrovefarmnc2 жыл бұрын
There is usually one included in most packages of oxygen absorbers.

any reason to not just vac lock the unused in a food storage bag? why mylar?
@pleasantgrovefarmnc2 жыл бұрын
Food storage bags are not air tight. The oxygen absorbers will pull oxygen in through the bag and will complete their reaction rendering them ineffective for future use.

Is is normal to have jar to warm up to touch right after you have vacuum sealed the jar?
@pleasantgrovefarmnc2 жыл бұрын
Yes, the absorbers will give off a small amount of heat. If you have the jar tightly vacuum sealed, this will be minimal and the absorbers will stay fresh for future use.

I had 2 questions first one was if the oxygen indicator turned purple and then it was immediately placed into the mason jar and vacuum sealed how long will it take to turn pink again ? My second question if I have some previously vacuum sealed jars without a oxygen observer is it ok to reopen and add one then reseal ? Thank you kindly
@pleasantgrovefarmnc2 жыл бұрын
How the oxygen indicator reacts will vary depending on the brand you are using. In general, you should see the indicator return to it's base color in approximately 30 minutes. If you have vacuum sealed jars, you can open the jar, add an oxygen absorber, then reseal the jar to create an oxygen free environment to extend the shelf life of the food.

So does tgis mean that if i tossed mine in a mylar bag they r bad.. they were open roughly 5 min now cling together
@pleasantgrovefarmnc2 жыл бұрын
If you heat sealed the absorbers in a mylar bag they are in an oxygen free environment. This is a good way to store unused absorbers.

Can you reuse the jar lids after re-opening?
@pleasantgrovefarmnc2 жыл бұрын
Yes, the lids can be reused many times. As long as they don't get bent, they will vacuum seal on the jar to make it airtight.

My bag with rice and oxygen absorbers is not hard this mean that they are not working?
@lilluvs77452 жыл бұрын
That happened to me with a few bags.. now im like do i open n try again
@pleasantgrovefarmnc2 жыл бұрын
Oxygen absorbers will only remove the oxygen. Since room air is made up of only 21% oxygen, there will be air remaining in the bag (mainly nitrogen which is not harmful for food storage). Not all bags will appear vacuum sealed around the contents. It depends on how much air space is in your bags prior to sealing.

Can someone or you tell me how long rice or beans would stay good in a mylar bag?
@pleasantgrovefarmnc2 жыл бұрын
Rice and beans, if sealed in a mylar bag with an oxygen absorber, will maintain freshness for 25-30 years.
@steelhorses20042 жыл бұрын
How long will unopened oxygen absorbers last in original sealed bag?
@pleasantgrovefarmnc2 жыл бұрын
Manufacturers recommend using oxygen absorbers within 1 year for maximum freshness.

Can you just put them in a canning jar with a tight lid?
@pleasantgrovefarmnc2 жыл бұрын
You can place your absorbers in a canning jar with a lid, but they will activate to remove the oxygen from the jar to create a vacuum seal. If this is done repeatedly, it will decrease the effectiveness of the absorbers. If you use this method, you should choose the smallest size mason jar possible to minimize the air in the jar.
