I'd sure love to see you do a video that explains everything from start to finish. (How do you decide the price you charge for each item, how do you keep track of everything, do you package everything at home and take it to the shipper each day or something different, how do you decide how much to keep as your profit vs. money you save back to then put back into buying more clothes and shoes to "flip" or "turn around".) I'd really love to see a video that goes over the business side of it all - IN DETAIL.

Plato's Closet is unreal with their lowballing amounts that they are willing to give you for your nicer items too... blows my mind what they will give you - almost insulting.
@daniella.montero4 жыл бұрын
right! In my state i've noticed they currently take $3-$3.50 per item you sell to them from what i've sold to them. BIG RIP OFF
@thirstyroot3 жыл бұрын
if you think about it, them buying clothes from people is the equivalent of going to goodwill & buying for your shop, you buy items as cheap as you can then turn around sell it for x3 of what you bought it for. definitely not for everyone though, it’s a quick way to get cash fast if your not willing to take the time to resell on depop/ebay/poshmark/facebook
@southerngirlsociety3 жыл бұрын
@@thirstyroot - Nah. The day I took all those clothes to Plato's Closet, they wanted to give me all but $25 for the items I was trying to turn in. I declined and took them to a local consignment shop and over the next three months, I made $150 just off the items that Plato's Closet wanted to give me $25 for. I had name brand pieces in there that were 2yrs old or less as well as a Coach purse that was brand new, a pair of brown boots that were practically brand new from Dr. Martens... I'm not sure if they thought I didn't know what it was worth, or if they were just trying to pull a fast one on me, but the consignment shop went 40/60 with me on my items and I still made out with better money than had I left them with Plato's Closet. The sad part is how many rich kids have no true idea how much some of their wardrobe really is worth, and that's why Plato's Closet gets away with what they do. It works for them and it's totally legal so why knock the business practice? I'm just not going to play into it when I work hard for the pieces I have in my closet and I know full well what they're worth. At the end of the day, PC is paying anywhere from 75% or less for the product people bring them so they're making bank for sure. Just not on my dime - not when I know I could make more with it somewhere else. Great place to shop though... LOL.

I hate plato’s closet. I’ll bring clothes there and my clothes are nice. They tell me every single time that they have stains, rips and too much wear and tear…. Such bullshit especially when I see what they take and carry. 🙄

they tried giving me $3 for brand new high quality jeans… mind you I USED TO WORK THERE. they’re horrible
@MayTheSchwartzBeWithYou2 жыл бұрын
The main issue I encounter is that it just takes so freakin' long to actually list an item of clothing (taking multiple pictures and selecting the best 10-12, uploading those pictures to Dropbox, saving those pictures to my computer, and then uploading those pictures onto the website, not to mention taking measurements and entering the brand, materials, features, etc., and then deciding pricing, and finally eventually shipping), and it just isn't worth the time for low-dollar items that could only fetch a couple bucks to begin with. It's worth it for expensive items, but for cheap items, the ROI just isn't worth it (especially if you're doing well financially and your time has a high opportunity cost). Even if the shirt is great, if the buyer already has to pay shipping, the total price they're willing to pay could mean you're only able to sell the item for a few bucks, and that's after upwards of an hour's worth of work spent taking pictures, creating the listing, and shipping the item out (an hour might sound long, but that's about how long it took for me to create a high-quality listing for a leather jacket today). I could just donate all my clothing, but then I feel like I'm just throwing hundreds of dollars away, and I'm selfish enough to rather just keep the clothes unused in my closet than donate them at that big of a loss (massive poverty complex from my childhood). I wish I could give them away to friends and family, but that's just not an option. So I'm stuck with a couple hundred dollars' worth of clothing that would take dozens of hours to list and ship (basically netting me minimum wage, which is not a productive use of my time). It's definitely a privilege to have this sort of problem, but for a relatively high-income frugal semi-hoarder, it's a frustrating one. I feel like I'm stuck with this clothing that I have no reason to keep but also no sufficiently compelling incentive to get rid of...aside from the fact that it's taking up valuable and increasingly scarce space in my house.

I watched just one other video from a girl that sold her unwanted clothing. She modeled the clothes and used a tripod with the self-photo feature. The things I want to sell no longer fit me so that isn't an option in my case. So what do you recommend I do?

Charge you to go through it and then charge you to return the items they isn’t want otherwise they keep them and try to sell them .. for themselves if you don’t pay for them to be returned. I’ve literally gotten .38 for a silk dress by a well known designer. It’s a total wracket. I’d def stay away from thredup.
