Finally a vocal coach that makes sense and can both describe in words, and practically demonstrate the technique. I feel like I’m making progress after a long time plateauing. Thanks so much.

As a gigging singer, I love the fact you admit to the struggle and difficulty inherent in certain songs. And they don't always magically get easier and effortless. They can remain challenging. Working on the Outfield song "Your Love." That song is a mother$#&+er to sing well in the course of a gig.

Great stuff. You're breaking down very complex ideas/singing sensations in a very digestible way. This level of detail, demonstration and technical accuracy is not available anywhere else. It seems like most other rock voice teachers simply started off with a tenor range and timbre. They don't really understand how to get over the baritone ~F#4 break and match texture.

A good teacher is often one who has had to figure out a lot of things that THEY have struggled with. I love that Sterling is honest about his journey. Maybe he gets a bit of the terminology ‘wrong’, (although it changes all of the time, to be honest…) and certainly there needs to be discernment amongst the singer when they are trying his techniques, but he’s SHARING HIS HARD WON KNOWLEDGE about what he’s discovered about his own instrument, and I’ve found a lot of it helpful! And I’m a voice teacher! Way to go Sterling!!!!!!

For me and where I am at, you are easily the best vocal teacher on KZbin. I don't always know what you are talking about, but I trust your process. (And you sound good and don't look like a rabid weasel when you sing, so that is a plus, too.) ; )

wow. this fucking guy^^^ ive spend months scouring youtube. i bought Ken Tamplin's course. another guy wants $5000USD for his secrets. i paid for lesson locally. i don't knock them - they all teach the same basics but this exercise finally described to me the "stretching head voice" concept in a way i could relate to. i could literally feel my chest voice stretching higher, like a gym work out. i get it. well, at least i think i do. wait. yeah. i do. thanks, Sterling.

Great lesson. One of the greatest singers, Ronnie James Dio, said that vocal compression was the key for him as a singer. He had played the trumpet for years as a kid and when he start singing he applied the technique to his singing.

I can't believe people complain about someone giving FREE advice!!! I find all of your videos highly interesting, helpful, and intelligent. Unfortunately part of the makeup of the worlds population includes people that want to put others down to make themselves seem 'better'. Please keep making your videos so people like me can keep learning from you :)

i remember days ago, when i try to practice mixed voice singing, one day my voice snapped and all i can produce was air (probably im at mixed voice at that time) though i still can sing with chest voice (lower note) and head voice (even falsetto)
@andrewsnee
@andrewsnee Жыл бұрын
Is there a difference between raising chest like this and pulling down your mix? BTW, if you change the lyrics of the song to make it a parody -- "Father, tell your child to stay off my lawn" -- it should legally put it into the realm of "fair use." Whether KZbin will recognize that right is another matter, of course.

Could you analyze "I'm crying" from Journey, ¿Is it probably one of the most difficult Journey's songs to sing?

I’ve been watching your and others’ videos trying to figure out a song by the pixies. I can’t tell if he’s singing with distortion or if it’s a type of scream that I should be learning. It’s the part in “Monkey Gone To Heaven” where he repeats “Then God is seven.” Are you familiar with the song or what type of technique that is? Deciphering some of these artists can be tricky. But my goal is to learn that song as well as NIN’s “Head Like a Hole.” I’m going to keep practicing to this video of yours to see if it gets me closer.

im sorry if that seems cheap. $20 CDN seems like more than the USD amount after exchange. its the thought that counts. lol. honestly youve really helped me with bridging into head voice.visualizing the sound rising from the underside of the soft palate to the top really helped. @@SterlingRJackson
