When it comes to storing your onions, you need to trim off the roots and trim the stalk. Next, you can plait them up into a string!

Best explanation I've seen. Thank you! For years I hung onions in strings by wrapping the dried stalks on top of successive bulbs, working from bottom to top. The trouble with that was that if one of the stalks became too brittle and snapped during storage, the whole lot collapsed. This is much better.

Every year I pull up your vid to remind me about this little job..........I still get the pleasure out of watching it and then I get the stringing done. Thank you very much for sharing this little skill.... and my apologies for not saying thank you last year . God bless Gilly wife of Mark in Norfolk UK

Its wise to remove any loose paper before stringing to prevent any pests that may lurk in storage Also the onions look neater when hanging up for using in the kitchen

My first time growing onions this year, must have beginners luck they are huge. Happy to see the stringing is a fairly simple process, have about 90 to deal with.

I can't really see what she's doing here. The camera is not on the onions enough. I can't see if one or two pieces of string are being used?

Thanks, a great explanation. Do the onions need to be kept in the dark when storing the strings? Thanks.

What happens if stems were all cut off when harvested?

I treied it, I got half way up and they all fell out. I ended up putting them on a table in my shed.

Must be doing something wrong as have attempted this now 8 times and everytime the first onion falls off. Have followed it word for word pushing through the loop at the bottom and letting weight of onion pull it down and hold firm - these are fairly big onions and it just isn't doing it for me.

I wonder if you're making the initial loop in the right direction? I got it wrong once, and the onion fell out. It was because I had not put the string and the onion stalk in the right relationship and getting the loop tightened against the stalk before letting the string take the weight. That was with huge onions!🙂
