Thanks for the showing how to do it. Instead of buying that special fabric, I just used some quality paper towels. I sprayed the wallpaper first, stuck up a paper towel, tapped it and pressed it against the wall and sprayed the paper towel a couple of times over the course of the 20 minute time period. Worked great!

Ok i was a handymen , contractor for quite a few years .Al you need is the turtle {scoring tool ],and use Diff its a product that works.Spray entire area with Diff till soaking ,wait 5 mins the apply hot soapy water.Wait a few mins ,try a couple of test areas the wallpaper will tell when its ready 95% of the time it peals right off ,No matter what you do some plaster will get a divot or just come of with wallpaper.,Repaor it no big deal ..Sand finish and apply whatever paint ,WP its all good to go ..

I liked your idea. I scored the wallpaper with a scoring tool, then found some Bounty paper towels and used hot water in a bucket. I soaked the paper towels and hung them on the scored wallpaper and the vinyl wallpaper came off in nice sheets.

If you want it right off just spray the wallpaper with dishsoap water, get it soaking wet (almost running down the wall) - wait 5 minutes and it comes off, full strips no tearing and no cleanup required. Did whole room (24m2) in under an hour. Cheap and easy

I did some part time work with a contractor a few months ago where we had to remove wall paper and then paint/texture. We spent a whole week removing the wall paper. I wish we had known about this process then.

I did the scoring today and used the Zinsser spray. For the most part, it came off easily. Then I tried warm water, using the same sprayer. It came off just as easy. I was happy to see the installer first primed the sheetrock. Otherwise, it will be hell, with lots of skimming! Tomorrow, I'll add some vinegar and some soap.

I was told to use equal parts hot water and white vinegar in a spray bottle. I watched the restoration crew use it, soaking the wall, at one of their job sites and the paper pulled off the wall in about 30 minutes. Why use the chemicals and extra materials and time to put fabric up? Is there a reason not to use vinegar and water (other than vinegar smell that takes a day to go away)
@dryfog125 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately all wall paper doesn't strip alike. Your at the mercy of the last person that installed it, if it's been hung correctly, it will be a snap, if not, your in for a lot more work. And it pays to know some tricks, and using a spur isn't one of them.

Here in sweden it is very common to use wallpapers instead of paint, 90% of the rooms. if it's not wallpaper it's fiber glas sheets that you glue up on the wall and later paint it. Since i work as a painter over here in sweden, we remove just the lose pieces and bubbles that you feel on the wall. After that you just spackle over those ares with filling compound, lightly sand the area. And you will be ready for new wallpaper.

Removing wallpaper from a plastered wall is a breeze. However, in my kitchen, the builder put wallpaper directly onto the drywall. Unaware of this, I primed over the old wallpaper and put up new paper. Now, 20 years later, I'm trying to get rid of all the wallpaper - and it's a nightmare! My layer of paper comes off easily. The original not. And the drywall underneath... Looks like I'll have to skim coat my whole kitchen. :( Still, it'll get done... Day by day... hour by hour...

I must have watched dozens of clips on how to remove wallpaper and absolutely nothing has worked as shown. I am in the process of removing wallpaper in a powder room. 4 walls....I tried different methods on each of the wall and none has worked. The top layer comes off relatively easy, but the bottom layer is a bitch to remove, because it is wet and it's a very, very thin bottom layer. It comes off in little strips and if too wet it actually loosens the paper tape that binds wall board together at their seams. I dare anyone who advertises this task as being easy and even as a fun activity to come over and demonstrate this on my walls. Be prepared for several days of removal, several days of patching, sanding and more patching and sanding. and when you think you are done there is more patching and more sanding. What most forget is that what's under the wallpaper and how long the paper has been on the wall are very important. Plain drywall/sheetrock, only primed or primed and painted? Then what type of paint. Water-based paint is the worse because it has a tendency to come off with the wet drywall.

+Kurt M have you tried steam to remove the wall paper and if so does that work best?
@kurtwm20108 жыл бұрын
+balotOeggOeater yes, I have tried steam and it did not work at all for me. What did work for me was simple warm water with a little dish washing soap. First, I removed the top layer, which comes off relatively easy. Grab a corner and slowly start puling. Then spray the bottom layer with the liquid, wait about 5-8 minutes and start puling off the bottom layer. Don't soak too much but, also, don't let it dry. Unfortunately I found out way too late into the project that this was the easiest way for me and worked very well.
