How did you print the white font? Like as white font on plain sub paper? Or did you do white font on a black background again on the paper?
@industrialfringe95324 күн бұрын
Great question! (Most of the time) in printing, there is no white, it’s just a lack of color. So for “printing” white, you’re actually seeing the color of the tumbler where there’s a lack of space. So if you had a light pink tumbler, the lettering would be light pink. I hope that makes sense! Thanks for watching!

Thank for all the tips! But how did you sublimate white over the black?
@industrialfringe95311 ай бұрын
Great question! You don’t! The white is where there was no black. So for my groom tumblers, the image is black with white writing. When I sublimate, the white writing doesn’t sub, so it becomes the color of the tumbler, which is, in most cases, white. If I subbed that same design on a light pink tumbler, my writing would be light pink. Make sense? Thanks for watching!

Awesome Video, two questions if you don't mind- How did you get it matte? Have you ever had issues with heat tape showing on tumbler after you press? Biggest struggle right now. Thank you
@industrialfringe953 Жыл бұрын
Thank you! You can buy the tumblers in a regular (shiny) finish or with a matte finish. (Link to my supplier in the description!) I did used to have occasional issues with tape impressions, but I started using very light pressure and that took care of it. Not always, but every so often a blank tumbler will be shipped not fully cured. That can cause tape indentions. To remedy that, bake it for a minute or so, then let it cool down and start the sublimation process as if it were just out of the box!
@SixTHSUN6310 ай бұрын
Hey Roy, I just started sublimation tonight and I wanted to know if I did want to "bake" the design off my test cup, should I wrap it up with paper anything; should I shrink wrap it also? What prep do I need to do?
@industrialfringe9539 ай бұрын
Welcome to the wonderful, sometimes frustrating world of sublimation! You don’t need to do anything, but set it in a sublimation-dedicated oven! I’d probably lightly wipe it off first, but you don’t need to do anything else! (Remember, don’t use an oven you use for cooking!) Thanks for watching!

Hi Roy... great video you have a new subscriber... should all tumblers be peeled cool or does it depend on manufacturer. Tony uk
@industrialfringe953 Жыл бұрын
Hey, Tony, thanks for subscribing! There is no manufacturer need. All stainless tumblers will react the same regarding this. The hotter the tumbler is, the better chance you have of getting ghosting. Obviously once it cools below 300 degrees, you should be fine, but I have found some designs with solid black on clear have a tendency to bite my butt if I peel them too soon. I used to peel mine hot, but changed about a year ago when I got a couple that ghosted. I still peel most of the tape hot, as I can’t stand trying to get the tape off when it cools! Thanks for watching!

Awesome video! I am using A-Sub paper, 125g everything I've seen says the output printing will be a little muted. I'm very new and struggling with getting the black (or other vibrant colors) to be very rich-looking. I am using the Epson Ecotank 8550, Hiipo sublimation ink. My paper selection is Premium Matte, High Quality...what am I missing that I'm not getting your results? Is time and pressure culprits?
@industrialfringe953 Жыл бұрын
Time, temp and pressure are so much of the formula that gets the perfect result! Light pressure is a must for me!
@SimplybeingR Жыл бұрын
Thanks for sharing...how did you get white writing on the black tumbler. I am confused... Did I miss that part of the video
@industrialfringe953 Жыл бұрын
I didn’t. The tumbler was white. I sublimated a design that was mostly black with no black (transparent) where the writing is. So basically, the writing is just not black. When I sub, all of the black shows up, but the area that doesn’t have anything (text) shows up as the tumbler color, in this case, white. If the tumbler were pink, the text would be pink, as it’s just an area that doesn’t have the black. Make sense? Thanks for watching!

@industrialfringe953 wow...that's brilliant! Thanks for replying! Do you have a video out on that process? If no, I sure would love to see the designing of it!!

Can you grab a temp gun to verify that you're element is as close to displayed setting? For all you know your actual temps are running hotter and the rest of use could have a machine heating exactly as displayed and wondering why 365 is not working out. I know mine is running a bit hotter and needs to be adjusted down.

What is the PERFECT measurement for a 20 OZ. skinny tumbler? 🙏🏽
@industrialfringe9533 ай бұрын
They’re all gonna be a touch different, sometimes even within a box of tumblers from the same manufacturer (although that’s rare). My jumping off point/default is 9-1/4” by 8-1/8”, with the width including about 1/8” extra paper for the overlap. I use this measuring tape all the time. It’s super easy to measure the circumference with this tape! amzn.to/36HZxOV Thanks for watching!

It could be a couple of different things. You should have light pressure and if you haven’t yet, you should double check the actual heat to make sure your temperature is accurate. I’d suggest joining our Facebook group, as it’s very easy to interact and troubleshoot! (There’s a link in the description.) Thanks for watching!

what if you use a convection oven instead of tumbler press...
@industrialfringe953 Жыл бұрын
Absolutely. It all boils down to finding that perfect time and temperature. I used to make all my tumblers in the oven, and I got great results with blacks. I did about 365-375 degrees (measured with an internal thermometer) for 4-1/2 minutes.

Since you're leaving the tape on for the extra 150 seconds, why pull ANY of the tape off before then? Doesn't that risk moving the paper around, with the potential for ghosting that you're trying to avoid?
@industrialfringe953 Жыл бұрын
Great question. I thought I mentioned that. My apologies for not! Tape is much easier to remove while it’s hot. So I remove MOST of the tape, but not all. I’ve found after I remove the top and bottom tape, if I’m careful to peel the seam most of the way down and leave the lower quarter attached, the paper doesn’t shift. If I pull all the tape off, it has a much better chance of shifting. I hope that makes sense! Thanks for watching!
@rickhorowitz9312 Жыл бұрын
@@industrialfringe953, turns out, you actually DID mention it. I posted the question before I finished the video. So, it appears that maybe part of my problem is that I'm impatient!

Roy you wear a mask…may I ask why ? Is sublimation smell bad ?
@industrialfringe953 Жыл бұрын
Some off gassing happens when I bake tumblers. If I’m only doing one or two, sometimes I skip that step (but I probably shouldn’t). I always use a mask when I’m doing a bunch, as I can’t imagine it would be a good thing to inhale those gasses! Thanks for watching!
@gustavobaeza3890 Жыл бұрын
Ink contains heavy metals. Therefore, when we sublimated toxic gases will come out from the ink due to the heat. We should always use some type of air extractor and not let those gases near you. you can have an air extractor right besides the heat press and will take all those toxic gases near the air we breath. Weather you do 1 or 100 tumblers always use an air extractor,.

If i “fix” an oops tumbler with all black, what can I then do with the black sublimated tumbler? Anything?
@industrialfringe95311 ай бұрын
Well, I used one to test out glue gluing tho ha to it. And I’m saving another to have sliced in half later this year for when I do a video about why you shouldn’t dunk tumblers into water when they’re hot! I don’t do vinyl, but if you do, I guess you could add some vinyl to it. Or save it and sell it before Halloween as the perfect creepy black tumbler! It’s hard to do, but sometimes we have to sacrifice a product to figure things out. I actually used old tumblers that had been messed up, so I didn’t feel like I was wasting anything. Thanks for watching!
